The New York Times reports that schools across the country are beginning to require tweens and teens to submit to drug testing before they’re allowed to play school sports or participate in school-sponsored clubs and extracurricular activities.
While the urine samples are being tested for a range of substances, the school districts aren’t trying to crack down on over-performing pitchers and soccer superstars. Instead, they’re trying to deter kids from trying drugs like alcohol, steroids and marijuana that are increasingly finding their way into middle school halls.
Though school administrators where the testing programs have been instated say they think the endeavors are working, others aren’t so sure, since testing has never been proven to be successful at preventing people from taking drugs.
What do you think of this development, babes? Do you think drug testing in middle school is silly or smart?

It's smart actually, since lots of people like sports, so they won't even think about trying all those terrible drugs

This seems like overkill to me. I mean, if it seems impossible, like 1 girl scoring 13 goals by herself, than maybe. Granted, i live in a close knit community, so that never really been a problem, but still. I didn't have to do it for high school, so why for middle school.

I think it's a great idea! Seeing my small little school in the north country with like 900 people all together. You would think their would like no drugs seeing we live in like the middle of nowhere but I'm in 9 grade and on varsity volleyball and done modified volleyball players got caught with a few guys smoking pot! It's rediculous and a few others a little older are already in rehab I mean what is this generation coming too!
