Plant your own indoor veggie garden

Cool weather doesn’t mean that eating delicious home-grown veggies has come to an end. Bring the gardening from your doorstep to your windowsill and eat fresh and healthy year round.

Getting started:

Indoor-friendly veggies
Chose indoor-friendly veggies to start your garden; the best choices are veggies that don’t need too much space. Some great options are lettuce, radishes, green beans, spinach and cherry tomatoes.

Find a plant-friendly home

Whether you choose a conventional pot for your plants or you have a colorful mug, an empty egg carton or old beach bucket in mind, you’re plants will need a stable home. Pick something light and sturdy that’s easily movable and won’t leak water. Get crafty and decorate your plant’s new home with stickers, paint, glitter or markers.

Make it shine

Your plants will need plenty of sunlight to start producing veggies, so put them on your windowsill, in the middle of a sunny table, in the sunniest corner of your room or wherever they can soak up their much-needed rays.

Delicious dirt

Plants need to eat too. Place small rocks at the bottom of your plant’s new home and fill it the rest of the way with nutrient-rich soil. Brining soil from outside might add unwanted insects to the equation, so buying new potting soil is best. Don’t forget to water!

Plant!

Once you’ve done all the prepping, grab your seed packets and read all of the directions. Different plant seeds need to be buried at different depths and need different care. After you’ve read, go ahead and plant! Once your baby seeds are in place, wait and watch them grow. Give them the attention they need and they’ll return the favor with delicious, year-round, home-grown veggies.
