Confession: I never understood the hype about super
expensive candles—until I got one. Before, all I could think about was how
lighting one was literally burning money. Which I guess is still true, as $32
for a mini candle still seems like kind of a splurge. Don’t get me wrong, it
totally is, but it’s also totally worth it.
You’ve heard about scent memories, right? Well, I’ve started
a mini tradition (OK, only last year, but I’m set on continuing it!) that
involves lighting this heady candle while I decorate my Christmas tree and
listen to the She & Him Christmas album on repeat (Zooey, I heart you!).
The candle in question is the Perdigone Diptyque candle,
which is French for ‘the best smell on Earth.’ Really. It’s technically
described as spiced plums, but it smells like Christmas heaven. So much so,
that even long after the presents have been unwrapped and the tree has been
taken down, I’ll still burn this candle well into the depths of winter to
conjure up the spirit and warmth of the season. Ahhh.
