The coolest end-of-the-world flicks

If the Mayan calendar is right, well, we’re all doomed. It’s the end of the world tomorrow! With our probable last moments left, we’ve put together a list of our all-time fave apocalypse films. So if by some miracle we all make it to tomorrow, be sure to watch some of these to celebrate surviving (another) end of the world.

Of the entire list, this movie would be the most fitting to watch! The story follows Jackson Curtis, who tries to reunite his family and save their lives before the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar. This flick includes some crazy action scenes, with major natural disasters and death defying moves from the main characters.

Deep Impact

When a teenaged amateur astronomer observes something strange in the sky, he alerts a famous astronomer. The pair realizes that the mysterious space object is a comet, and it’s headed straight for Earth. From that point on, it’s a race against time as the Americans and Russians plan a mission to destroy the 7-mile-wide comet before it can collide with Earth and kill all forms of life.

The Day After Tomorrow

When scientist Jack Hall discovers concerning weather patterns, his team presents their findings at a United Nations Conference. No one takes him seriously at first, until several super-storms begin to form. Jack’s son Sam is stranded in New York City, so he fights to reach Sam before the super snow storms hit and freeze everything they come in contact with.

I Am Legend

Robert Neville is all alone in the world, as far as he is concerned. After a lethal strain of the measles virus destroys 90 percent of the population and turns the remaining into mutant vampire-like beings, Neville is the only immune person left in New York. Living with his dog, he works on a cure to the virus while making radio broadcasts in hopes of finding others who are immune. When the mutants attack, will Neville be able to successfully save his own life, as well as theirs, with his antidote?

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World

This film is a bit like Deep Impact, except the meteor is named Matilda and the last attempt to stop it from hitting Earth was unsuccessful. Now, there are only three weeks left on Earth. When the news is broadcast, Dodge Peterson’s wife leaves him. Left with nothing but his boring job, he sets out with his neighbor to reconnect with his high school sweetheart.

The Day the Earth Stood Still

This modern remake of a 1950s film takes a fresh outlook on the end of the world, blaming the apocalypse on the environmental mistakes of humans. Klaatu the alien is sent to Earth to either salvage what he can and save the world, or destroy the entire human race. Will humans be able to change their behavior, or will their habits be the death of their entire kind?

When businesswoman Beth comes home from a business trip to Chicago, she becomes sick with what seems like a cold. Her young son gets the same symptoms and is sent home from school. Suddenly, Beth begins having seizures and is rushed to the hospital. She dies in her husband Mitch’s arms. When Mitch returns home, his son has died also. Mitch is immune to the mysterious disease, but he is unsure who else is. As the entire world panics with the onslaught of the disease, will Mitch be able to save the remains of his family before it is too late?

Jarrod and Elaine visit LA for Jarrod’s best friend’s birthday party. Soon, the innocent trip goes awry when alien spaceships descend to capture any human caught looking at the blue lights emitted from the spacecraft. Jarrod and Elaine fight to survive as aliens probe humans for brains, but what happens when the couple are sucked into a spaceship themselves?

Which apocalypse flick is your fave? Which end-of-the-world scenario do you think is the most realistic? Blog about it, babes.
