ADVICE | TOUGH STUFF

So you got an awful gift. Now what?

 
Those awkward situation when… you open up your long-awaited gift to discover another boring pair of socks. Don’t know what to do? We’ve got you covered, girl.

 

Hopefully, your acting skills come into play and you’re able to appear pleasantly surprised and thrilled by this lovely pair of wool socks...or whatever the horrifically boring gift may be. If you don’t trust your instincts, always remember to say “thank you” and express how thoughtful the giver is.

 

But if the gift isn’t just a boring pair of socks that you’ll probably end up wearing anyway, and is instead some denim-frilly-wool creation from a department store, the giver prob attached a gift receipt just in case. More likely than not, your aunt, cousin or grandpa just wants you to have something you’ll love and couldn’t care less if you return it. There’s nothing wrong with exchanging gifts if the size isn’t right or it’s just not your taste.

 

What you do need to be conscious of is homemade presents. These aren’t returnable and prob required a lot of time. Even if you’re not lovin' it now, the gift may mean a lot to you one day if you hold onto it. And ya don’t have to obsess over the gift itself in your thank-you note. Just mention how much their time and effort means to you. Be sure to be thoughtful and thankful, but don’t feel obliged to wear or use something just because it was once a gift.

 

After all, it’s the thought that counts.

I used to have a friend , lets call her G. G used to boss me around and she used to take advantage of me.So, she dumped me and I became friends with a girl she had already dumped. And then I started becoming friends with her current friend, and now she left her for me because she says she doesn't like being mean. This girl is now my BFF. But my other friend, G, is all alone. She has NO friends at all. I feel sorry for her but at the same time I'm afraid she will do the same thing if I go back with her. What should I do????.

Hey girl,

If she's really sorry, maybe the three of you could all be friends! You don't have to leave one friend for another one. If she starts being mean again, tell her that you like spending time with her but that you don't appreciate when she is mean and that she hurts your feelings. Hopefully she will apologize--she might not have realized how much she had hurt you!

I love one direction sooooo much! And of course i need posters of them to be a good fan right? And i really want to go to their concert in August 2013! But i dont have any posters or concert tixs bcuz my parents dont know who they r! How can i get 1D to start popping into their minds!?

Just keep talking about them! If your parents see that your passionate about them, they might be more likely to splurge on some concert tix. Hey, you could even try popping in a 1D CD the next time you're all in the car?? Good luck!

My grandma got me a $50 gift card for Justice but I can barely fit their largest sizes and it's kind of a store for younger kids.... what do I do? I know not to tell her, I just don't want to put $50 to waste. Is there a way to exchange it for an Aeropostale card or something? Thanks Laughing

My best friend in the world and I promised that on our birthdays and on christmas that w would get each other gifts. So we are gonna give each other our gifts when we go back to school. We go back to school in a few days and i dont know what to get her. There is this guy, lets call him Cory, who is 2 years older than me, one grade older. I have always thought he was cute, but he hangs out with these guys sometimes who smoke and do some bad stuff. But i know Cory doesn't do that stuff. Then Cory gave me his number through Facebook, so i texted him. We started texting and he kept asking me who i liked and I kept saying i didn't know. then finally I said "I kinda like you" then he said "I like you". I was really happy. But I am friends with his friend, lets call his friend Max, who also has a crush on me, but I don't like Max like that. So a couple of questions,
1) is it okay for my to even like Cory since he sometimes hangs out with bad people?
2) I don't ever know what to talk to Cory about because I am into sports and he doesn't do any. And I just don't know how to carry any conversation over with him
3) Is it mean of me to like Cory since I'm friends with Max? because I feel a little guilty since max likes me. Thanks

 

Hey! 1) It's ok to get to know him, just be careful and if any red flags come up 2) Just think about how you talk to your friends and try to emulate that when you talk to him 3) It's not mean at all, you can't help that he likes you. good luck!

Sometimes that can just be a signature she has for her email. Sometimes I would get weird things like that, and I found out it's just some random signature they have at the bottom. Emails & texts can have that. Smile
