What guys really think of your party outfit

So, you did your runway research, recruited your besties for fash advice and finally picked the perf NYE outfit. But in reality, all that stressing about what to wear can be summed up with one question: “Will my crush think I look cute in this?” Here’s what these guys had to say about current fashion trends:

  • 1sel.jpg
“The asymmetrical cut looks dumb. I’m not a huge fan of cut outs on the sides or ruffles at all. And dresses should either be above the knee or all the way down to the ankles, otherwise it’s awkward looking."—Danny, 16

There’s no need to get crazy. Too many ruffles, a diagonal cut at the bottom, and cut outs all at once are just a little too much. Go back to the basics. Do you want your dress to be short or long? Choose one.
  • 2tay.jpg
“Best thing is menswear in women's wear, like blazers on girls is really nice.”—Yohnny, 17

Tomboys rejoice! Taking a cue from the guys’ closest works wonders for your weekend wear. Your best bet? A well tailored blazer and trousers, like Tay’s.

“As long as you look ‘classy’ then you’re good. Not like inappropriately dressed, not a ton of skin showing. And show that you put a little time into your image.”—Will, 16

Elegant, classic, timeless. That’s what should pop into your head when you look in the mirror. Emma Watson nails the no-fail look with a cream peplum top paired with a black pencil skirt. Need more inspiration? Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s is our iconic go-to.
  • 4vic.jpg
“I like [Victoria’s] confidence, but the red and pink look bad together and the black thing underneath doesn’t really go with either. And also the side cutouts are kind of strange.”—Andrew, 17

Despite popular belief, guys aren’t colorblind. They know what looks good together and what doesn’t, so don’t turn colorblocking into a clashtastrophe.
  • 5demi.jpg
“Honestly, I’m not a fan of over-the-top trends. But as long as she’s happy with what she’s wearing, that’s all that really matters.”—Mike, 16

Your clothes aren’t going to make or break a relationship. He knows you, and although there are some outfits that he thinks you look totally awesome in (and maybe some that aren’t so hot), he isn’t going to make a decision based only on your appearance one time. Use your best judgment on what’s appropriate and what you think you look good in.
