Book review: Crafts, laughs and getting over your ex

 
 
If you're ridin' the struggle bus and it's currently parked in Splitsville, then Lynn Chang's The Break-Up Activity Book: Crafting Your Way Through a Broken Heart is just for you. Her solution to mending a broken heart, through creative and hilar craft ideas, follows three stages of recovery. The "Getting Started" section at the beginning even offers a fun way to alter a chocolate box to fit a melancholy mood, perfect for Valentine's Day.  Her simple designs are full of therapeutic, artsy projects to let you embrace your feelings and then move forward with your life. Grab this book, some basic craft materials, and your sense of humor, and you'll be ready to embark on Chang's unique path of healing.
 
While we don't advocate destroying your ex's sweatshirt to make a hot drink holder or a punching bag, the mere thought is pretty satisfying. If you'll be seeing your ex around quite a bit (ahem, second period algebra?), avoid the bridge-burning crafts (like slicing up his possessions) and put your own positive spin on Chang's directions. Use your own stuff to be crafty, but don't feel bad about enjoying this book's clever (though sometimes destructive) art project descriptions to work through breakup emotions.

Does anyone like getting books from GoodReads.com? I cant believe how big their selection is for teens and young adults. And they have a section called new adults that has a great selection, but it seems for teens too.

(Meghan D please) Thanks! I went on the link and found my account. It says "Your subscription does not include the current three issues." But I got the Bridget Mendler one and the Shay Mitchell one! Shouldn't I get the Victoria Justice one?

I'm not sure which three issues that means since I'm not in the subscription department--I would send them an email or call them at the phone number on that page during business hours to talk to them about your subscription and straighten everything out. They will be able to answer your questions better than I can!

So I would love to be friends with my ex-crush. I told him I liked him in October, and he gave me his number, but his bff also liked me, and that's when all this drama happened. He started avoiding me. But at this snowball fight party in December, that's when it became a bit better. I chased him all around the room, and I could tell he liked it. Then on nye, he liked my tbh status. He never does that. Is he trying to be my friend? I see him Tuesday so how do I tell him I would like to be friends and nothing more? That I don't like him like that anymore? I don't have that many real guy friends, so how do I tell him that?

Hey girl,

If your crush is into sports, maybe you could go to one of his games! Or if you like sports too, maybe you could play together at recess or ask him to shoot hoops with you after school. Or just start a conversation and ask him about the sports he plays and watches--I'm sure he would love to talk about what he loves, and it would get the conversation going!
