The smartphone contract every girl should sign

Check these out, too...

  • 7 ridiculous caffeine-laced products (and why they just might disappear)
  • Want to help Oklahoma City? Here's how
  • Jessie makes fun of...food allergies? Hmm.

One lucky 13-year-old boy got an iPhone for Christmas. But it certainly was not without limitations. Wrapped up with the phone, was a contract written out by his mom (pretty much the savviest mom ever, we gotta say) with the rules he had to follow in order to keep using the phone.

Originally, we were gonna pick out our favorite rules and include them below. But ya know what? This contract is jam-packed with things we think ever tween and teen smartphone user should abide by, so here are our top-three picks. We urge you to click through to see the full contract, available at HuffingtonPost.com, and hey, why not print out a copy, sign your name at the bottom and hand it to your 'rents? That's a pretty awesome New Year's resolution in our book.

9. Do not text, email, or say anything to someone that you would not say out loud with their parents in the room. Censor yourself.

11. Turn it off, silence it, put it away in public. Especially in a restaurant, at the movies, or while speaking with another human being. You are not a rude person; do not allow the iPhone to change that.

14. Leave your phone home sometimes and feel safe and secure in that decision. It is not alive or an extension of you. Learn to live without it. Be bigger and more powerful than FOMO (fear of missing out).

Read the whole thing right here and tell us which cell phone rule you always follow, no matter what.

After reading the entire article, I think that some of these points are reasonable but some are just ridiculous! I mean I understand the things about no porn, always answer a call from mom and dad, stuff like that but having to hand it over at 7:30 every weeknight and 9:00 on the weekends? And not taking it to school? That kind of defeats the purpose of a phone. If I had been the one to receive this contract, I would have been offended. A lot of these rules make it seam like the parents don't trust their kid. If they feel like they have to write out a contract and make him sign it in order to use "his" phone, then they shouldn't be getting him a phone at all.

I was at a restaurant the other day, and a group of teens were sitting at a table. ALL OF THEM WERE TEXTING!!!!!! People nowadays need to learn to appreciate talking to other people, not just surfing the web, or texting. That's just stupid.

If the mom feels like she has to make him sign a contract in order to be sure he is being responsible, then why is she giving him a phone it all?

I had to sign a contract when I got my phone. At first I complained about it but now I get why my parents did this to keep me safe and so I am not being rude while using my phone!

this is just pretty much common sense and respect which a LOT of teens r lacking. its the truth and it hurts.

They gave him an expensive phone.... He shouldn't complain.

wow that's a lot of rules. some of them are ridiculous. that almost ruins the whole "freedom of having a phone."

If you have a smartphone be smart!
Gl has an article about what not text in their latest issue and when it comes to sexting try and resist, the worst would be for my or your mom or dad to read one of our sextexts. And the naked pictures of "down theres", I know its a popular thing but try and let other people have to deal with the consequences. Its not worth them ending up in the wrong hands. I cant tell you how many guys I know and I have seen there down there, it makes it tough to see them at school knowing you have seen them naked and they arent even your bf. I think we just need to be smarter.

I always make sure to know who I'm texting, or chatting on FB, or Snapchatting. My mom was stalked by a pedophile for six months when she was my age and I don't want that to happen to me.

7:30 pm? Know the password? Take away phone?

I would be happy for the phone... but not the contract :-/

Um no...most of these my parents would never suggest and I would never agree to. Especially this one: It does not go to school with you. Have a conversation with the people you text in person. It's a life skill. *Half days, field trips and after school activities will require special consideration. The whole reason of a phone is to be able to contact people and if I didn't bring my phone to school, I couldn't text and ask to stay late because of a teacher talk or something. And knowing your child's phone password? Teens need privacy. AND taking his phone away at 7:30?? What if he needs to text people about homework and projects? She gave him the phone, but is basically telling him everything that he has to do and not do with it. It's almost like giving someone a plate of cookies but then saying they can't eat it.

I agree with some of them but not all of them. And I, like every other person wants privacy so some of the things I would not want included in the contract. I know most of my friends would never sign that, I think I am more reasonable than they are so I might only agree to half of them.

I'm sorry, but that's stupid. What's the point of having a smartphone, or ANY phone, if you have to follow all of those. I'm just stating my opinion, but seriously.
