Save your spirals! The curly girls guide to perfect hair--part 2

Check these out, too...

  • Musical collabs we totally heart
  • Dream on with a DIY dream board
  • Trends we heart: Americana
  • Fash face off: Selena vs. Taylor
  • 6 handbags every girl should own
Got curls? No need to agonize over how to get your spirals perfectly springy or be totally envious of girls with stick-straight strands. With our fab hair face-off, you can pull a Taylor and rock it out either way whenever ya please. (Psst! Get the sleek 'n' straight guide HERE.)

Curly hair…quick!
Can’t start from scratch? Freshen up fab curls in time for a Friday-night fete.

1. Spritz your tresses with a curl refresher to boost body. Plain ‘ol water in a spray bottle works, too. Wait a few mins for hair to dry, then…

2. Curl any spirals that have lost their shape with small-barreled curling iron (3/4’’ to 1’’, depending on the tightness of your natural curls). Then, simply wrap a portion of hair around the barrel, hold for a few seconds, and release.

3. Finish with a shine spray to fight frizz and keep locks looking amazing.

Bedhead busters!

·    Preserve and protect those precious curls by sleeping on a satin pillowcase.

·    Before bed, sweep hair up into a super-high pony and keep it in place with a scrunchie to ensure your curls are gorge when ya wake up.

·    Freshen curls in the morning by spritzing with water in a spray bottle to reinvigorate your ringlets, and running fingers through the underside to detangle.

    Defeat the heat

Your hair styling tools can really cause some damage to your hair, but a thermal protective spray can totally help. Just spray before you heat up that curling iron so your tools don’t cause problems.

    Eufora Curl n’ Spray Revitalize, $20, eufora.net

  • 4aveda.jpg

  • 5Cbeachbabe.jpg

    Beach baby

The beach waves style is so in. And now the texture you get from spending the whole day with your toes in the sand can be yours all year-round. Just mist generously onto clean, damp hair. Comb through evenly and style with fingers or a brush to create random texture, waves and body. Then air dry naturally, use a diffuser or lightly blow dry. Don’t forget your bikini!

Not Your Mother’s Beach Texturizing Sea Salt Spray, $6, ulta.com

  • 6Cfoxy.jpg

    Mega mousse

Nobody likes it when their hair falls flat, especially when they spent all morning styling their strands to perfection. But just a little bit o’ mousse at the get-go, and that surely won’t happen.

Bed Head Foxy Curls Extreme Curl Mousse, $17, target.com

  • 7pillow.jpg

    Type-A much?

Sure, we girls can be quite the perfectionists when it comes to our hair. And this ringlet lotion gets us pretty close to perfection. It rejuvenates curls and waves, bans frizz and revives shine.

    Va-va volume
It may look funky, but this blowdryer is totally tops. The “fingers” that are attached to it lift the hair while blowing hot air underneath, right where you want it. The result: fabulously full hair.

Conair Volume Boost Infinity Pro 2-in-1 styling tool, $40, target.com

  • 12comb.jpg

    Comb control

A regular brush can mess up your gorgeous curls and make them a crazy, poofy mess. Instead, a comb will keep your hair calm without ruining your ‘do.

How do I get to know a guy better? I don't have any classes with him, and I don't know much about him. He's been saying hi to me lately though in the halls and I just want to get to know him better! I'm a freshman! There's a dance (girls ask guys) coming up in less than a month, so possibly I could ask him if I get to know him better! We also do not have lunch together. But I do have lunch with another guy I kind of like...Any tips?

Hey girlie, keep saying hi to him in the hallway. Smile and wave. If you give him clues that you're interested, hopefully he'll start finding ways to talk to you.

What are some easy hair styles for a school day? My hair is mid-length and brown. Thanks!

Hey girlie, you can pull your hair back into a low ponytail or bun. You can use a headband. You can use a cute clip to pull back some of your hair in a half ponytail type style. You could also braid it. There are lots of fun and easy things you can do with your hair.

MODMODMOD!!!
My teacher is making me completely stressed out. She gives my class like 6 huge assignments in one day and expects us to be able to finish them for the next day. It's even worse on weekends. Because of this, I have no free time, no time to study for tests, and my band teacher told me that if I don't find any time to practice my instrument my average is going to be lowered to a 53%. I've tried talking to her, but she told me that I'm not working hard enough and that she gives my class way too much time. I'm totally exhausted from all this homework. What should I do????

Hey girl, I think you should talk to your parents and your teacher who is giving you too much homework. Maybe that teacher can give you extra help. Or if she's not responsive to you, maybe you can have your parents meet with your teacher. Don't worry girl, you'll figure it all out. Life is about finding balance. You'll get it. Smile

So I wasn't able to go to a mutual friends slumber party for her birthday. Me and my "bestie" have been in this awkward stage where were not really talking or hanging out. When I woke up and looked at my oovoo is said "HAPPY BIRTHDAY BESTIE!" I don't mind that she has other besties, but she is constantly busting on this girl or talking bout her. Im afraid she could be doing this about me. Also, she says that I always hang out with a certain friend I don't get it because when I hang with her and her group she ignores me but when I don't she has a fit. Help whats going on?

Hey girl, I would suggest talking to her about it. Ask her what's going on just making sure everything is okay between you two.

MOD. MOD. MOD. MOD.
Okay so slight problem. I have this guy friend and we are super close. Today he told me that he had some news but my girlfriend would have to tell me. She told me and it turns out the he got a girl pregnant recently. I feel heart broken because I used to have feelings for him and still do less intense and he couldn't tell me himself. I have so many questions. Like why didn't he tell me himself? And what should I say to him because as of recently I have become very emotional about this and refuse to talk to him. Can you please touch all the bases and tell me what to do because I'm at a loss.

Hey girl,

I can only imagine what your friend must be going through and your hurt at finding out secondhand. If he doesn't know you had feelings for him and you never dated him, though, he might not realize that having her tell you hurt your feelings. He's probably just going through a lot right now and thought it would be easier for you to hear from a girl. Even though it hurt your feelings, your friend is probably really confused right now and could probably use the support of his friends, so try being supportive of him instead of refusing to talk to him. Just be there for him when he needs a friend. And please encourage him to speak with a trusted adult like a parent, guidance counselor, teacher or doctor about what he's going through. You can also refer him to this post on teen pregnancy resources to share with the girl. http://www.girlslife.com/post/2008/08/18/Teen-Pregnancy-Resources.aspx?cp=all
