Out with the old! 7 steps to clean your closet for 2013

What better way to cleanse for the New Year than to go through your closet? If you’re sick of not being able to find anything to wear (much less your left riding boot…), we’ve got 7 tips on how to successfully reframe and reorganize your life closet (which might as well be your life). Don’t think you can face your monster closet alone? Invite over a few girlfriends to help you stay focused and give you advice.

Step 1: First things first, have a few trash bags handy for separating your clothes. You are going to want to start three piles: “keep,” “give away,” and “toss.”

Step 2: The best thing to do is to go through each clothing type one item at a time. Start simple with your shoes, and then move on to pants, sweater, tops, etc. The more organized you are going through your closet, the better you’ll be at the end when you are putting it all away.

Step 3: As you think about each piece, consider whether or not you have worn it in the last year. If the answer is no, then you should place it in your give away pile: Chances are slim that you’ll ever actually put it on. Plus, another girl out there may be very thankful for your donation. If an item of clothing is ripped, stained or holey, then you’re better off just tossing it.

Step 4: Ask questions. When considering something you want to keep, think about how often you wear it, ways you can restyle that piece, and whether or not it still fits. The best way to judge is to try everything on! It may seem like a hassle, but it is the best way to see how each piece of clothing fits.

Step 5: Hold on to the classics! Although you may be tired of your little black dress and a zillion plain white tees, it might be a good idea to keep them. Pieces that never go out of style are great to have in your closet because you resort to wearing them year after year.

Step 6: After you have gone through your entire closet, really consider how you want to put all of your clothes away. You could organize by season, color, or category—maybe even a combination of all three! You may also want to reconsider which things you hang up and which things you fold. Pick the format that is most logical for you and the space you’re working with.

Hint: We hang up our blouses, skirts, dresses, nice pants and jackets, fold our tees, tanks and sweaters, and gently roll or fold our jeans.

Step 7: Now you are ready for a little shopping spree! The fun really begins when you find out what you need to buy for the next season. After going through everything, you will be able to see what you actually need, which means less time spent buying unnecessary garments and more time spent shopping for great must-haves for your wardrobe this season. Success!

Also, an awesome thing to do for old, maybe tattered clothing, is to do a DIY project with it! I still remember when I was 8 or 9 and made a purse with my brother's old jeans! It's an awesome purse and I 'girled it up' so to speak with several bright iron-on flowers!

It's super easy to do, you just take the jeans and cut off most of the legs, then flip it inside out. Then, sew the bottom of the legs (or shorts) and flip it back. After, you can cut off the brim of the jeans (where the ankles would touch the pants) and make it in to a strap for the purse.

It's an awesome project if you have old pants and about 30 minutes to an hour of time on your hands Smile

I've used this for my closet! It works very well. And I've found out that some of my older shirts don't even fit me, and I've been keeping them forever.

What if you share a room with your 10-year-old little sister? I have to go through all her clothes, too. Wait.... lol. I forgot. I'll just give away what I'll never let her go out in public wearing! duh! nevermind!

I saw this really cool thing were you tke converse and fold down the tounge and side downs and put studs on the tounge I really want to do it any advice on how to and color of converse. Or are there any other ways to put studs on converse?
Thanks

Hey girlie, I think it would look best with a dark color like black. The best way I would know how to put on studs would be with hot glue. But there might be a better or easier way out there.

I would like your opinion. I have this blouse that is a dark burgendy color and its longer, so I wanted to wear it with black leggings and chocolate brown ugg boots. Do you think that the black an brown would clash? Or the black brown and burgendy would not be a good mix? Please be honest!!!! Thank so much!!!

Hey girlie, I think a lighter color boot would look better. The chocolate brown isn't your worst option, but I think flats or lighter boots would be prettier.

I have chin hair and it's REALLY annoying and unattractive, and when i shave it, it never stays off. It grows back instantly and, like I said, it's REALLY ANNOYING!! Please Help! Frown

Hey girlie, use a pair of tweezers and pluck them instead of shaving. It'll take longer for the hair to grow back and you'll feel cleaner.

I have a REALLY BAD soda addiction, and I'm trying to quit drinking soda so much using the "Sick Boy Method"
HELP ME

Hey girlie, try to slowly start cutting down on the number of sodas you drink. Start by trying to limit yourself to one a day and move to one a week. Drinking more water will also help reduce your soda craving. Keep a bottle of water with you so that you can use it to keep hydrated and fight off cravings.

@icecreamluver, for #3 I would be prepared to pay for dinner for both of you unless he offers to pay. He could join your group of friends, or you could spend time with both, but if you want it to be more of a date then spend more time just the two of you. You give him a ride unless he offers, and therefor you'll prob meet his parents. You can choose the place unless he suggests something.

i bought this cute sweater that is white with black arms. How should i wear it? i like to be comfortable but no leggings or dresses or skirts please! can i wear it with tan/brown even though it's black and white? thanks!

Hey girlie, you can definitely wear it with something tan. I would probably wear it with skinny jeans or your favorite pair of jeans.

@Icecreamluver, yes! It's normal to be nervous. To shake those nerves, just practice how you're going to ask the guy and right before you talk to him, take a few deep breaths. Whoever you plan to ask, he'd be a fool not to say no. Good luck!

Mod? I could really use your help.
1.) my subscription status says it ends dec./jan. 2013 does that mean this year or next? And if next year y is it saying that my parents sent in 1 of those cards to renew a few weeks ago?
2.)r sady hawkins dance is coming up on feb. 2 & this year i was thinking i should ask somebody to experience going 2 a dance w/ some1. But idk who 2 ask. I had a idea of someone who was in my old grade school but idk because we dont talk alot & idk if i shiuld ask him as a friend or what b/c were acquaintances. My friend suggested someone who i actually had a conv. w/. but i dont talk 2 many guys.
3.) i still dont get how the whole date thing works @ a dance. If i ask some1 do i pay 4 everything? Does he join my group do i join his? does this mean i give him a ride do i meet his parents? Does that mean i spend the whole time w/ him @ the dance. and what about eating out who picks the place? Idk understand.

Hey girl, that means that it ends with the last dec/jan 2013 issue, which was this past issue. - Ask whoever you'd like to be with! Whoever you think is cute you should definitely go for it and ask. You'll have to work all that stuff out and figure out where you want to go and hang out with. At a dance, you two might have to pay separately for your dinners unless the guy offers to pay.
