Today is Martin Luther King, Jr., Day. It falls on the third Monday in January every year to commemorate the life of MLK, close to his b-day on Jan. 15th. MLK Day is a U.S. federal holiday, so chances are you don't have school. Suh-weet! However, it doesn't take long to realize that Dr. King's legacy extends far beyond securing you a day off. Visit Wash D.C.
No need to pack your suitcase to visit D.C. on Monday, just turn on your television and watch the second inauguration of President Barack Obama. In the same city where MLK led a march to get Civil Rights legislation passed, the U.S. will again inaugurate its first black president. Bonus? Beyonce is performing!

Become a DJ and create a playlist of music inspired by MLK. Start off with Common's "I Have a Dream" featuring Will.I.Am. Let this playlist be the soundtrack to your day.
Show the love
The Corporation for National and Community Service has deemed this MLK Day to be a day of service. Take a few hours to help out with an organization in your community. Spread a little local love around and you'll be feelin' pretty good.
Don't forget the b-day partay!
Remember, this is also a b-day partay! End the day with a delish, homemade cake, perhaps decorated with your fave MLK quotation piped out in icing (or, you know, written on little paper flags that ya stuck into cupcakes. Your choice). Yum!
