5 genius ways to wake up your winter wardrobe

Check these out, too...

  • Tune up your summer concert wardrobe with these picks
  • Trends we heart: Americana
  • 6 handbags every girl should own
When you have exhausted every sweater combo your closet allows, and you’ve tied the entire plethora of your scarves in every twisted knot known to man, it is easy to get stuck in the winter wardrobe blues. But wait! Before you go pulling that raggedy old sweatshirt over your head for the second (okay, fifth) day in a row, check out these ideas that’ll help ya get that fashionista sparkle back in your eye.

    1. Buck up to bold colors

When the landscape is carrying what seems like a deeper tinge of gray every time we look out at the bare tee limbs, it seems almost natural to blend right on in with what we see. Instead, try picking one vibrant hue (like red) that’ll give your otherwise neutral get-up an awesome pop of color. Add this color in with some accessories, or make it a statement piece like an awesome cardi.

Mossimo Women's Shawl Collar Pullover Sweater, $21, target.com

    Star Scarf, $9, forever21.com

    Filigree & Floral Bangles, $8, forever21.com

    Textured Dot Crossbody, $20, forever21.com

    2. Sneak in some florals

Nothing says warm weather like cute floral pieces. Usually, we find ourselves holding off on these items until we can at least imagine the sound of spring birds chirping, but special times call for special measures. Tie a pretty floral scarf around an otherwise repetitive tee and jacket combo for instant added warmth. Floral bag? Extra cute! Or make it a statement with an adorable floral tee.

Floral Horse Vintage Thermal Raglan, $42, junkfoodclothing.com

Mossimo Oversized Floral Scarf, $15, target.com

Max C Two Tone Floral Satchel Bag, $35, asos.com

Floral Lace Inset Top, $15, delias.com

    3. Steal some summer spirit

Be a little daring and try layering a pair of shorts over leggings. It can give you an edgy vibe and keep those poor sun-starved legs warm. Play around with color or just stick with traditional black until ya get the hang of this look.

AE Lace Pocket Denim Shortie, $45, ae.com

    Leggings, $10, hm.com

Bow Print Peter Pan Collar Long-Sleeve, $30, delias.com

    Jacket, $50, hm.com

    4. Wear a dress

It’s that simple! Just throw on some tights or heavier leggings to keep your legs warm. By putting on that dress you haven’t worn since you hung it up in your closet last October, you can brighten your mood in a flash. Rock a scarf for extra coziness.

Gemstone Beetle Print Dress, $20, forever21.com

    Leggings, $10, hm.com

    Cocoon Cardigan, $15, wetseal.com

sur la tete Chunky Knit Infinity Scarf, $19, villagehatshop.com

    5. Go wild with jewelry

We mean this in the most subdued way possible. By go wild, we really mean try pairing pieces you wouldn’t normal wear together like a chunky statement necklace and a few statement rings—the focal point will be on your accessories and that way you can feel comfortable wearing that neutral knit…again.

    Sweater, $25, hm.com

La Flor Cobalt Necklace, $37, ilycouture.com

Julee's Large Gray Oval Natural Stone Fashion Ring, $27, fantasyjewelrybox.com

    Signet Initial Ring, $20, urbanoutfitters.com

Hola chicas! I need your advice about something. Our school's Valentine's Dance is coming up, and I'm not exactly sure how I want to look for it. I already picked out my shirt, it's a silky black blouse. But I have no idea what to wear for bottoms. Jeans? What kind? What about a skirt? Also, how do you girls think I should do my hair for the dance? I'm planning to straighten it, but do you have any ideas on how to style it? Thanks so much!!

MOD MOD MOD
Well, I have a very tomboyish and repetitive style. I usually wear some graphic tees with jeans and maybe a hoodie all winter. I have TONS of cute dresses and skirts. But I never wear them for fear of looking "weak" or "girly" For school or around guys, because I almost never need to be rescued. My parents love to joke that I wear the cutest stuff on the weekend, but the thing is, I'm not completely sure how shed my boyish look for something more femine for school, but still keep my ability for care for myself. What are some ways I could shake up my style to show people, "Hey, she does have a figure!" Instead of wearing hopelessly baggy shirts and pants but still be tough as nails, but not always be veiwed as "one of the guys" all the time?

hey girl! I know exactly what you mean. It can be difficult when you wanna portray two things at once. I think your best bet is to fuse the two sides of you. Dress in clothes that make you feel confident, not overlooked (sweatpants) or super girly (skirts/dresses). Mix and match pieces to work outfits that are not "too girly" or "too tomboy". Try skirts with leather jackets, ripped jeans with frilly tops, etc. It's all about balance!

xoxo
