“No, people do not have to change their shampoos,” says Dr. Aronberg of Washington University. “Remember, a shampoo is to cleanse the scalp, and hopefully while doing that, not harm the hair with harsh chemicals. In order to avoid harming the hair, companies put conditioners into the shampoos, which can build up on the hair shafts over time and possibly make the hair a bit limp.
