Ask him to the dance (so he'll actually say "yes")

Check these out, too...

  • Do long distance relationships work?
  • What he really thinks of your fave summer outfit
  • How to deal with a bad kisser
You’ve been practicing how you’re gonna do your makeup. You’ve got your dress all picked out and, of course, it’s absolutely gorge. Shoes, check. Jewelry, check. Hairstyle – all planned and ready to go. Now all you need is… your date.

Obvi your first choice is your crush. If you’re worried he won’t ask you, though, or if maybe you know that he’s way too shy to ever make the first move, it’s definitely time for you to take matters into your own hands. Don’t be afraid ask him yourself!

And you know how they say the worst that could happen is that he could tell you "no"? Well, we say differently. Check out some of these fun, creative ways to pop the question that’ll be sure to have him answering, "Absolutely, yes."

Send a Puppy

Seriously, who could ever resist an adorable, big-pawed bundle of cuteness trotting up for a cuddle? It’s not only girls who go all happy and melty at the sight of baby animals.

If you don’t have a dog of your own, borrow a precious pup from a friend. Or, even better, see if you could sneakily borrow your crush’s own dog (this is the part where it helps to be BFF’s with his sister and/or his mom). Then, tie a note around its collar, and send it over to your crush after school or when he’s walking home. Odds are, he’ll be so enamored by your appreciation for animals – and by the ball of joy barking at his feet – that it won’t even cross his mind to refuse.

Make a Video

Nowadays, interacting through YouTube has been taken to a whole other level. While you don’t have to make your declaration public knowledge, sending your crush a recorded message through text or email – or even through a link to a private video that you posted on the interwebs – can often be the best way to go. For one, this works especially well for people who are shy. You don’t have to actually face your crush in person, but it’s not exactly impersonal either. You also have the option of making it cute or funny – you could play him a song, for example, or deliver a hilarious monologue.

Or you could go all out, like this guy did when he created a fake movie trailer to propose to his girlfriend:

If you’re still not convinced, here’s Exhibit B:

Yep, if a video message could convince Justin Timberlake to go to a dance with this girl, the chances are that your guy will respond positively are looking pretty high too.

Feed Him

You know that age-old saying, "The best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach?" Well, it’s kind of really true. So experiment with cute ways of incorporating some sort of food into your question-asking. And there are definitely plenty of ways.

You could bake a batch of cookies, for example, then ice one word of the question, "Will you go to prom with me?" on each cookie. Stack them on a plate pyramid-style so that the "will" is on top, and he has to eat his way through the pile to get to the "the dance with me"’ on the bottom. Or, if you want to put a fun spin on it: get a cheese pizza delivered to his house. On the outside of the lid, write something like, "I know this is cheesy, but…" Then, on the inside, scribble your question. The possibilities really are endless! One thing’s definite, though: he’s certain to want to be your date to the dance.

Chalk It

This option is the perfect opportunity to put your excellent drawing skills to use. Note: it most definitely requires getting the permission of his parents, or giving them a heads-up at the very least.

Grab a box of multicolored chalk. Get up really early one morning, and head over to your crush’s house. Sketch "Will you go to the dance with me?" or simply "Spring dance?" on his driveway and cover the area around it with doodles, making sure that everything is visible from  an upstairs window. When your crush gets up, it’ll be the first thing that he sees. You’ve made it bold, fun, creative – how could be possibly say "no"? Answer: he couldn’t. You’re way too cool of a gal.

I this past weekend I went to prom with a guy friend. He kissed me and now we are dating. Meanwhile, my crush, who wasn't at prom, has been flirting with me like crazy the last two days. (I mean all of my friends have noticed too..it's obvious.) He doesn't know I have a boyfriend and I don't want to tell him, because I have worked so hard to get his attention...I'm scared of losing him if he finds out I am in a relationship. Please help! I don't want to break things off with my boyfriend this early, but I don't want to lose the guy who I have wanted for so long.

Hey girl, it sounds like you need to make a choice between your crush and your BF.  You can break up with your BF and then flirt with your crush, or you can decide to stick with your BF and let your crush know you're dating someone else.  Good luck!

Prom is coming up next month, and last week I asked the guy I kind of liked if he wanted to go with me, but he said no. Although I don't mind going solo, it'd be nice to have a date, so I've been thinking about seeing if my one guy friend has a date and suggesting we go as friends if he doesn't. The problem is, I only see him in one class, and the guy I already asked is in that class, so he might overhear the conversation. Plus, I don't want my friend to feel like he's just my backup option, since he knew pretty much what happened. If your first choice for a date says no, does it look bad if you ask someone else? I don't want to be that girl who's desperate for a date.

Hmm seems like a tough situation. Maybe ask your guy friend but let him know it's as a friend. Just make sure he knows you'll love to go with him but it's not that hes your back up or lame date option. You just think youll have the most fun at prom with him. Good luck! xoxo kerra

I became friends with this guy last year. This year we still see each other and we smile, so we're still somewhat friendly. I started out trying to be friends with this guy and I developed a crush on him. How can I let him know I like him as more than friends so I can ask him to my school's formal?

Hey singer1377, maybe send him a text saying you like him and would like to go to formal with him. Or if you feel more comfortable talking face to face, do that. Hope this helps! Xoxo Smile

MOD MOD!
this boy in my class has been flirting with me all year so far. he hugs me and says "you look cute today" or "hey girl!"just yesterday he amped it up. he brushed my shoulders tuoched my hair, held my hand and sat with me for lunch and waited for me, but when he was with me he would tell me if he thought a girl he saw was cute.. like he was trying to make me jealous. I am getting confused about if he is just joking or serious. I dont want any awkward situations, and I dont even know if I like him like that. so do you think i should just keep taking it as a joke?

Hey Girl, boys are super confusing. He could just be a major flirt, or he could be trying to make you jealous. You know him better than I do, would he do something like that? Try testing the waters, when he says that another girl is cute jokingly ask something like, "but I thought I was looking cute today?" It will bring his attention back to you and maybe help you get a better idea of what he is thinking. You don't even know if you like him, so you don't have to do anything dramatic. Just keep the status quo, and it will all work out.
