Armed guards in schools: Thumbs up or thumbs down?

In the approximately 100 days that have passed since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut, we’ve talked a lot about gun control. Now, state governments are beginning to advance legislation that might actually do something—though what that something is, exactly, is up for debate.

Just last night in Connecticut, the state’s legislators approved a new set if laws that would limit high capacity magazines, in addition to other tight restrictions on purchase and ownership of firearms.

Earlier this week, Indiana moved in the opposite direction. Though the National Rifle Association has released a report that recommends schools train and arm staff, The Huffington Post reports, Indiana’s House Education Committee has put forward an amendment that would require schools to have an armed guard. That guard could be any school employee, once he or she has passed a training course. More than two-dozen states are considering following Indiana’s lead.

What do YOU think of this idea of requiring schools to have armed guards? Tell us in the comments!
