Allison Weiss: The indie Taylor Swift

It seems like these days, some of Hollywood’s hottest talents are just belting out impersonal tunes written by someone whose job is to write lyrics about teenage emotion.

Which is why we’re super excited about Allison Weiss, the upcoming indie rock goddess who’s behind the voice and the lyrics of her upcoming second album, Say What You Mean. We love Taylor Swift (and her tunes!), but it’s awesome to have a fresh face on the scene of girl singer-songwriters. We snagged an early listen of her sophomore album and are giving you a look at some of our fave tunes before they hit April 16. Check it out below.

“Making It Up”

This tune is all about the questions that reel through your head after a break up. Allison encompasses the way a real girl feels—mainly because she wrote the lyrics herself. We especially love the catchy electronic beat that soars through the chorus. There are also plenty of awesome guitar riffs and drum beats, giving us a dance-worthy indie rock vibe.

“Nothing Left”

This upbeat jam is Allison’s way of expressing that her desires have changed and she’s confused about her current relationship. She says, “It’s not what I want anymore, I think it’s the endings that I hate.” We all know how crazy teenage love can be, and Allison captures all of the emotions beautifully.

“Don’t Go”

We could just see ourselves listening to this song when we’re angry or on a run—it’s just perfect for pumping us up. It opens with really energetic guitar beat before Allison’s voice breaks in with, “Lately, when I wake up all the numbers on my clock are new to me, I gotta get more sleep.”

“Wait For Me”

This song tones things down a bit and goes for a calmer and sweeter vibe. Allison croons over an acoustic guitar saying, “I’m back to the basics, I’m waiting for signs, praying for patience, falling behind.” When the chorus hits, Allison’s voice is framed by gorgeous violins swelling with emotion. This honest and real ballad really rounds out the album, making it the perfect thing to listen to no matter what mood you’re in.

Be sure to pick up a copy of Allison Weiss’ album Say What You Hear when it drops April 16th! Or pre-order it HERE.
