Should you tell him how ya feel before school ends?

I really like this guy in my grade. The problem is, school is ending in a couple weeks. We have mutual friends, so we might run into each other. Should I tell him how I feel before summer starts? Help!

Hey girlie! Traditionally, the end of the school year isn’t a great time to start a new relationship, so I see why you’re worried. The good news is, summer is just around the corner, and it’s a perfect time to “run into” your crush!

Since you have mutual friends, try to organize a group event, like a backyard barbeque or picnic. By inviting him to a low-key hang out, you’ll let him see you as a down-to-earth girl who’s focused on having fun with friends. You can talk a little with your girlfriends and a little with him, so the pressure’s off! Use these experiences to tell whether he’s interested too. (Hint: If you approach him in a friendly way and he’s more interested in talking to his buddies or another girl than hanging out with you, he might not be worth your time.)

If these summer hangouts go well, you’ve positioned yourself amazingly for the beginning of the next school year. You’ll be in the back of his mind as a cool girl who he enjoys spending time with. So when you suggest hanging out just the two of you, he’ll be more likely to say yes and be excited about a fresh new romance.

But keep in mind, summer is a special time for having lots of fun and meeting new people. Don’t feel tied down by this guy you like. Instead, see your possible relationship with him as something to look forward to in the fall! Best of luck, hon!
