5 sweet DIYs for Dad's Day

Let’s get serious: How many ties does Dad really need? Stand out from the crowd this Father’s Day—and give your piggy bank a break—with these cute gift ideas that’ll have ya getting crafty in seriously cinchy ways.

A cute take on couponing

Tired of the typical book o’ coupons? Try this fresh spin on an old idea: Print out a pile of pictures that somehow relate to the task you intend to complete, like walking the dog, giving a back rub or baking cookies. Write the task on the back of the photo and bundle in a jar or package neatly with ribbon.

Positively magnetic

You can order personalized magnets like these online—or you could hit up a craft store and, well, get crafty. A small piece of wood or plastic, a photo, some ModPodge and a magnetic will put you well on your way.

Way cute cards

We’re digging this charming take on standard store-bought cards. Grab a piece of construction paper (or an old map), fold into a plane, then scribble down your message and decorate. So. Easy.

Shadow art

This one is a cinch, and you probably have everything you need on hand, minus an inexpensive shadowbox. Pick one up, then select a special moment that involves you and your dad, granddad or whoever else you’re gifting this Father’s Day. Use glue, tape or pins to pull together a three-dimensional display of items that relate to that moment. Think: A pennant, your tickets and a snap of you guys at the big game to commemorate your first trip to the ballpark.

Eat up!

You can purchase a pre-made box of these sugar cookies, but why not whip up a batch of your own? Use a tie-shaped cookie cutter (or freehand it with a butter knife), bake ‘em off and then use icing to decorate the ties. Perfect for the dad who has warned ya not to buy him another tie this year. Wink wink!
