5 ways to multitask your makeup

Whether you want to streamline your morning routine or just want to use fewer products, there are lots of ways to make your makeup do double duty. Check out our tips and tricks for totally cinchy ways to make your makeup multi-task.

Multi-tasker #1: Use coverup as lip and eye primer

A long-wearing stick concealer makes a great lip and eye primer because it’s meant to stay all day. For eyes, add color soon after you apply so you can press the color into the concealer before it dries. For lips, let the concealer dry first so the color doesn’t mix. As an added bonus, applying concealer under your lipstick will make the color ten times brighter!

Multitasker #2: Use mascara as eyeliner

If you find yourself without eyeliner, you can dip a thin liner brush into mascara and swipe it on as eyeliner. If your formula is a little thick, try dipping the brush in water before you swipe the mascara to soften it up a little bit, which will help create a smoother line.

Multitasker #3: Use lipstick as cream blush

This one is a tried and true trick that makeup artists love to use for custom color. It’s especially great in the summer when you want to use creamy face makeup for that dewy glow. Swipe a little lipstick on your fingertips, rub them together and blend on to your cheeks. Start with a little bit of color and build up slowly. Make sure not to use a matte lipstick, as it can come out looking caked on instead of fresh.

Multitasker #4: Use powder to mattify lipstick

This is one of our personal favorite tricks. If you have a pretty pink or rad red lipstick and want to wear it matte, follow these steps. Apply a generous coat of lipstick to lips and get the color you want. Then, softly pat powder on over the lipstick with a makeup sponge. Don’t press too hard, or you may rub off some of the color. Once the powder has set, lightly dab on another layer of lipstick to seal in the powder and keep the color vibrant.

Multitasker #5: Use bronzer as eyeshadow

This trick is great for achieving a pretty, all-over bronze look that is totally perfect for summer. Use bronzer as you normally would, then dip an eyeshadow brush in the bronzer and apply all over primed eyelids. You want to use primer, since the formula is going to be less opaque than a traditional eyeshadow. Try a matte bronzer for day and amp it up with a shimmery bronzer at night.
