My friend keeps canceling on me. How should I handle it?

A friend keeps canceling on me and I want to confront her but I don’t want to come off as bitchy as so many girls do.

Dear Attitude,

Getting on a high horse and acting angry is not the solution. But no need to be a doormat. Reach out to other girls, but next time this girl cancels on you, keep your tone even, mature and steady, and without crying or shrieking, say, “Hey, we made a plan and I’m disappointed that you’re breaking it.” It’s okay to grow a backbone, and if this girl objects, well, she’s not really a model friend anyway. And who needs friends you can’t count on?
