Feelin' stressed? 15 chill-outs to try right now


School hasn't even started yet and you're running on empty already. Sigh. Now's the time to hit pause and get your relaxation on--it IS National Relaxation Day, after all. You don't have to hit the hay or the mat to feel better just like that. Here are 15 of our favorite strategies to refresh our minds and bodies in an instant. 

 

Turn off the TV, stretch out flat on your back and close your eyes. Deep breaths. Ahh...

 

Take a big whiff of your favorite scent. Hold it in for a five-count, then exhale.

 

Bring a plant inside. In a pinch? Cut flowers work, too!

 

Open your window. Even if you're stuck inside, a summer breeze and fresh air will rejuvinate you.

 

Wash your sheets. Is there anything better than fresh sheets?

 

Instead of rushing through your shower in the a.m., take a bubble bath in the evening.

 

Put your fork and knife down between bites to really savour what you're eating.

 

Give your favorite person a big bear hug. Squeeze!

 

Pull out a photo album and waltz through some remarkably wonderful childhood moments.

 

Make friendship bracelets with your best friend. It'll remind you of your tight bond.

 

Finally have a dry day? Stretch out in the grass with your summer reading.

 

Climb a tree and watch the world go by.

 

Look in the mirror and tell yourself how amazing you are. It's true!

 

Stressed? Hit the bathroom and spend 30 seconds running cold water over your wrists.

 

Lay down in the afternoon and put tea bags or cucumber slices over your eyes. Hello, pampered princess!
