Going to formal with your BGF? Here's how to figure out the bill

I'm going to formal with my BGF. We're going to dinner before the dance. Should we split, or should I let him pay for everything?

His Answer: "Any man will want to be considerate and treat his date," says Matt K., 17. "But, having him pick up the tab might change the mood from friendly to romantic. Be careful if you're going to let him pay."

Decoded: When a guy pays for a girl, he may automatically view this as a flirty gesture. While you might think it's just him being nice, he could be seeing it for more than you bargained for. Guys might take you letting them cover the bill as an OK for the date as a sign that you're into him.

Your Move: Since he's just your BGF and not BF, treat it like going to dinner with your friends and split the check. Having him pay for you might give him the wrong impression of a date and make both of you a li'l uncomfortable. He may offer to pay, but it's OK to kindly let him know that you've got your own bill. Paying separately will save the risk of any awkwardness and keep everything less complicated. But if he insists on paying, let him cover it, as long as you let him know where you both stand.
