My ex broke up with me almost three years ago, but a few months ago I started dating his best friend. He keeps saying stuff about me to my face and to my BF. So why would he do that if he is the one who broke up with me?
His Answer: “He’s clearly jealous. He thought he was the winner by breaking up with you, but now that you’re dating someone else he realizes he’s not,” says Grant K., 17. “Now that he’s alone and you have a boyfriend, he’s not okay with that. If he can’t have someone else, you can’t either.”
Decoded: Three years ago when you broke up, he held the power since it was his decision. Now, he sees that you’ve moved on and he doesn’t like that. He wants you to still be stuck on him because that’s what makes him feel good about himself. He’s realizing now that you’re completely over him, which is a blow to his ego.
Your Move: Don’t let him get to you! He broke up with you; you’re done with him. Just because he can’t move on doesn’t give him the right to bring you down. Show him that you’re better without him and won’t play into his games. Get your BF to do the same. If he won’t leave ya alone, ask your boyfriend to tell him directly to back off. He might listen if it’s coming from a friend.
