I have a best guy friend, and he's kind of confusing me. When we're together, it's like we could talk forever. But then when we're texting, or chatting on Facebook, he'll randomly stop talking, or won't reply. Am I doing something wrong?
His Answer: “I would say confront the friend about it,” suggests Ian M., 17. “He’s your friend and there’s probably an explanation for it. He’s most likely just distracted by other things like sports or homework and so he stops responding. I doubt he even realizes what he’s doing upsets you.”
Decoded: There’s nothing to worry about! When he’s at home or out doing things with other people, his focus isn’t entirely on you like it is when you’re talking in person. He’s just getting distracted. To him, forgetting to respond probably doesn’t even cross his mind as something he’s doing wrong.
Your Move: It’s OK to let him in on your feelings and tell him that his inconsistent patterns are a little frustrating. That said, don’t come off too strong and make him feel like he has to be texting you 24/7—that could scare him off! Ask him to try to let you know when he’s going to be doing something else and not going to respond for a while. It’ll be a quick message for him and peace of mind for you.
