Just 'cause you play a sport doesn't mean you're getting enough exercise


Researchers have long since dictated that tweens and teens ought to be getting at least an hour a day of moderate exercise. But this just in: That hour doesn’t include standing around waiting for drills to start.

 

According to an article on NPR, these bursts of activity aren’t adding up. Just one in four kids between the ages of 12 and 15 get the recommended hour of activity a day—not good for the overall mental and physical health of America’s youth.

 

The good news is that you can make the most of your downtime. Jogging in place or bouncing on the balls of your feet can be enough to maintain activity levels between structured exercises. And easy activities like long walks, leisurely bike rides and skate boarding around town totally count!
