In a letter to the principal of Rachel’s private school, her parents
wrote that she “has shown no indication of remotely abiding by rules or
changing behavior,” and now that she is legally adult, they are no longer
required to financially support her. Apparently a boyfriend the parents do not
approve of is among the problems her parents have.
The hearing is scheduled for this afternoon. Rachel is seeking an
emergency court order to require her parents to pay to support her, now and in
the future. What do you think of this conundrum? Once you turn 18, do you think
your parents should have to support you? Tell us in the comments.
