15 spring odd jobs to get ya started

Here’s the sitch: You’re ready to start padding that wallet, and you’ve finally got a few spare hours here and there, but, well, you and little kids just don’t get along. Pet sitting sounds great, but there aren’t enough dogs and cats in your area to make a business worthwhile. Your next best bet? Shooting for odd jobs—especially with spring on the horizon. Here’s a list of tasks to get you started.

Pulling weeds

Painting fences

Organizing sheds

Power washing decks

Cleaning out pools

Decluttering pantries and refrigerators

Cleaning out closets

Trimming hedges

Planting vegetable gardens

Washing windows and taking down storm windows

Maintaining bicycles

Repairing spring clothing

Deep cleaning and beating carpets

Tidying attics and basements

Cleaning ovens and appliances

Here’s how to get the gig: Spread the word by posting quick little ads on social media and online community boards to let people know you’re ready to work. You can go door-to-door in your neighborhood (or just speak to neighbors you know, if Mom and Dad would be more comfortable with that). Hang flyers on bulletin boards in your local grocery store or library. And get out in the yard and get busy! When neighbors walk by on a nice day, they’ll see you doing major sweat equity and wonder if perhaps you could help them get set for spring. Tell ‘em you’d be happy to help them out and wait for the offers.
