4 scents to keep you sharp during exams

Finals don’t have to be the bane of your existence. And with these four scents on your side, your GPA has nowhere to go but up. Take a peek at these power tools and pack ‘em in your bag, babe. This A’s on us!

Cinnamon improves test scores

A study from Wheeling Jesuit University found that sniffing cinnamon can help you score more points on a test by boosting your attention, memory and your response and recall speed. It can also calm you down if you’re feeling anxious before a test. Try adding a sprinkling to your morning oatmeal.

Peppermint helps you concentrate

If your mind is wandering before the test paper hits your desk, try popping a mint or sniffing a box of Altoids. Peppermint, it turns out, boosts your brain’s stamina, making it easier for you to ditch distractions. Wheeling Jesuit University also found that the scent also increased motivation, reaction time and confidence.

Pine relieves stress

Freaking out? Don’t. Head outside and park it under a pine tree to study. The scented oil in the tree’s needles is ultra therapeutic, a Japanese study reports. If you don’t have a pine tree nearby, see if you can find a pine-scented candle, or raid Mom’s Christmas stash to see if there are any lingering scents to be, uh, smelled.

Citrus wakes you up

If you stayed up late studying, snacking on an orange or swiping on a citrus-scented lip balm could wake you up and help you focus. Not only will the Vitamin C prop up your immune system, but the citrus-y goodness of it all will keep you from falling asleep mid-exam (or mid-study sesh). Phew!

You just remembered there is a book report due in a week. What are you thinking?

It's bad to eat really late at night.
