Joelle Charbonneau’s Testing Trilogy paints a postwar world in which the future depends on the brightest students from its eighteen colonies. Acing the test
In book one, The Testing, Cia is selected to brave the brutal Testing. She’s determined to become one of the next leaders of the United Commonwealth, but her father warns she must trust no one as he recalls his own nightmarish experience in The Testing. Far away from her friends and family, Cia manages to pass The Testing and attend the University at the young age of sixteen.
 
In book two, Independent Study, Cia is constantly reminded of her awful harrowing experiences and vows to expose The Testing for what it really is. She puts her life—and the safety of her family—on the line in a desperate attempt to stop the violent, deadly competitions for the top positions in the class.

Graduation Day is packed with the same intensity and danger as the first two books—but this time, Cia is forced to question her “trust no one” mentality. She’s up against the United Commonwealth to end The Testing, but learns she can’t do it by herself. Cia is forced to decide: Does she fight the United Commonwealth alone and die in the process . . . or possibly save herself by forming a group of allies, people she isn’t even sure she can trust?
