6 things Taylor Swift has taught us about love

It’s already a known fact that we (and many of you GL girls) heart Taylor Swift. She was, after all, voted to be the cover girl for our very special 20th birthday issue by a ton of you.

One of the reasons we dig Taylor is because she loves love. But it’s kinda obvious that Taylor has had many, many boyfriends. Whether we know who they are or not, we can always count on hearing about them through her music. Here are six things the now three-time GL cover gal has taught us about boys, relationships and love throughout the years.

    You’ll probably regret some breakups

Don’t we all wish we could have done some things a bit differently at times. Taylor has been there before. Remember her song “Back to December”? Well in case ya didn’t know, that song is totally about Tay’s romance with the other Taylor (Lautner of course). She apologizes for hurting Taylor and sings about how if she could, she would go back and do things differently with him. RIP T-squared.

Sometimes you’re gonna fall for the “bad guy”

Taylor has fallen for her share of guys that probably weren’t that good for her—where the relationship was kind of treacherous. Taylor’s songs “Dear John,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “Treacherous” and “Forever and Always” are all products of that. They’re allegedly about failed relationships with John Mayer, Harry Styles, and Joe Jonas and, taking one listen to each, you can tell they all ended up hurting her…but she fell for them anyway. “In fairy tales you meet Prince Charming and he's everything you ever wanted. The bad guy is always wearing a black cape so you always know who he is. Then you grow up and you realize that Prince Charming is not as easy to find as you thought. You realize the bad guy is not wearing a black cape and he's not easy to spot; he's really funny, and he makes you laugh, and he has perfect hair,” she’s said in the past. Sound familiar?

    Be fearless

Isn’t “Fearless” actually like the best song ever? It teaches us a lot about love and that you just have to go for it. Put yourself out there like Tay does because ya never know what will happen and who will end up liking you back. As Taylor puts it, “Being FEARLESS isn't being 100% Not FEARFUL, it's being terrified but you jump anyway.”

    Love is beautiful and tragic

Love can be tragic and beautiful at the same time. Just listen to Taylor’s “Sad, Beautiful, Tragic,” which is a song that is in fact sad, beautiful and tragic at the same time. No matter what, Taylor goes by the motto of never giving up on your dreams. But really, the best is yet to come!

There are no rules when it comes to love

Taylor always tries to live life to the fullest. When you’re falling in love or have a crush, she’s taught us it’s best to be a little carefree because you don’t know what the future holds. Taylor has said, “I try to let love surprise me because you never know who you’re going to fall in love with. You never know who’s going to come into your life—and for me, when I picture the person I want to end up with, I don’t think about what their career is, or what they look like. I picture the feeling I get when I’m with them.”

Sometimes the best kind of love is shared with your BFFs

It’s always best to lean on your besties when you get your heart broken. We mean, have you seen the gaggle of gals Taylor usually hangs out with? Selena Gomez, Emma Stone, Kelly Osbourne are just a few. And their hang time often involves some sort of baked treat. We have yet to make a dude who can whip up a batch of cookies as good as the girls.
