Foster Care Facts
In the United States, over 500,000 kids are in foster care and about one-half are over age 10. Over 80 percent of youth in foster care have developmental, emotional or behavioral problems. They only have a 33-percent high-school graduation rate.
If your family has extra love to share, these organizations have info on how to foster a child: National Foster Parent Association (nfpainc.org) and the Casey Family Programs (casey.org).
If you are a teen foster child, the National Network for Foster Children and Foster Youth at fyi3.com has tons of support: message boards, resources, a list of your foster-care rights and tips on dealing with tough sitches.
