A Stressed-Out Aspiring Actress

I'm studying to become an actress and I have a convention coming up where I can audition to actually get on shows and movies! I'm really excited but I'm more scared because I'm very shy and I'm afraid that my shyness will ruin everything for me.

When I act silly I'm afraid I’ll look stupid. I blush really easily, I don't speak loud enough and I just can't be myself! I know you’ll say who cares what people think but my mind automatically does care no matter what I tell myself. I have real talent but I just don't know how to show it. Please help me!

Follow your dreams, babe! I was the same way when I was your age, I didn't want to hear the same ol' who cares what people think speech either but honestly this advice works. You have to step up when given the opportunity because you may not get another chance to show 'em what you got. And guess what?! If you approach this acting job with killer confidence, people are way more likely to love you.

If you are sure that you have talent but are still feeling uncomfortable performing, find a close friend or family member who you are willing to perform for. Let them be your judge. That way you can get some really good pointers for improvement and also practice building your confidence.

Remember, a little fear and nervousness can be a good thing. Most people have butterflies when they’re trying something new. Why!? Because new stuff is super exciting! Once you knock the first audition outta the way you'll feel relieved. You may always be timid when performing but that fear forces you to put forth your best.

I kinda know where you’re coming from. I was nervous when I first start my public speaking class. I had to present a speech on the economy and it lasted for 25 minutes! I was so afraid I would mess up and that something would go horribly wrong. But in the end everyone thought that I was amazing. If I never tried I would have never known how good I truly was.

So the bottom line is go out there and challenge yourself, chica. Being scared and nervous in new situations is the only way to get new experiences and GROW. No matter how you do on this audition, you’ll be doing something great because you’re doing something brand-new. Believe in yourself because if you don't how can you expect others to. Show off your skills because you have what it takes.

Hugs,
Chardae
