Sister vs. Sister

My older sister is really athletic, and I'm not. She's on a winning basketball team and all my family ever talks about is basketball and sports and other stuff she does. I can't help but feel left out and a little jealous.

There's nothing they can talk about that has to do with me. I know nothing at all about all the sports she does. The only special thing I do is theater, and I haven't been auditioning lately. How can I stop feeling so jealous and left out?

Oh, girl, I'm really sorry you're feeling so left out of your family. It can be really tough to shine when you live under the same roof as a rockstar who seems to dazzle everyone with her shining accomplishments. The thing to remember is you're good at your own stuff, and it isn't a competition when you have so much variety in one fam!

Sure your sis might totally rock at free throws, but you're great at what YOU do, too! So, get out there and start auditioning again, sistah. You're the one who can light up a stage and command the crowd!

Remember, you can both be successful at the same time. Practice your lines at home and ask your parents to sit in, or sing some of your favorite songs if musical theater is your thing- ask for your sisters advice on good songs to try, too. ANd while you're at it you may even wanna explore some new activities that you've always wanted to try. Learning new stuff is sure to give you an insta-confidence boost.

When you and your sister become each others own personal cheerleaders, it's hard to feel competitive.  Be there for her games and ask her to help you prepare for auditions. You're a family, so get out there and
support each other!
