Just Between Us Girls

I'm getting my period soon, which I am excited and nervous about. I've talked about it with my mom and my sister, but I want to talk about it with my two good friends and pen pals. The only problem is, I don't want to make them uncomfortable talking about periods. Should I stay quiet or talk?

EVERY girl gets their period. It is the single most common characteristic of all women across the universe. Don’t feel awkward about it. In fact, the more you talk about it, the easier it is to talk about more pressing matters. Your friends probably have the same exact questions and concerns but they are probably waiting for someone to break the ice.
I wouldn’t bring it up out of nowhere but if the conversation ever seems to be headed in that direction, don’t shy away from adding your two cents. Granted you don’t need to talk about it ALL of the time, nobody needs a play by play of your uterine activities, but discussing reproductive health is important for your own well being. If you have questions, I am sure one of your two BFF’s can answer it. It’s a great support system.
As for your pen pal, that’s a little difficult. You don’t really know her personally and it may be a little inappropriate to bring up your body with her. I would just stick to your friends that you see on a regular basis for period talks.

XOXO,
Jana
