American Idol Recap: Disco Fever

The idols had a case of disco fever and while some boogied the night away, others performed soft songs that could be hits on the radio ASAP.
Lil Rounds began the show with “I’m Every Woman,” and to be honest she sounded just like every other woman. There is no denying she can sing, but as the judges said, her performances have been unoriginal. She has not come into her own yet and Simon said this is probably the last week we’re ever going to see her on the Idol stage. B-
Kris Allen went second singing Donna Summer’s “She Works Hard For The Money.”  I was overly impressed with Kris’s performance and he was absolutely one of my faves of the night. He had a totally original arrangement and showed his true colors while performing such a popular song. Kara was also impressed with the risk Kris took and Randy added that he def knows who he is in this competition. A

Danny Gokey hit the stage hard with the Earth, Wind and Fire hit “September.”  He was full of electric energy and got the audience clapping and singing along. Danny was definitely on fire and Paula even said that he has one of the sexiest voices ever. Simon, on the other hand, didn’t feel any “star power” and thought it was a clumsy performance. I thought he did a great job of showcasing his vocals. A-
Allison Irahetta went fourth singing “Hot Stuff,” and she was hot stuff indeed. I am blown away by Allison’s ability to showcase her powerhouse voice week after week. Her edgy, rocker side def serves to her advantage and always keeps her at the top of her game. Randy and Kara agree that she is one of the best singers in the competition and even Simon said that it was a brilliant performance. Yay Allison! A

Next up was Adam Lambert who hit it out of the park with “If I Can’t Have You.” He gave the song a unique twist and performed a soft rendition of the upbeat classic. His vocals were completely flawless and Simon actually said they were impeccable! The arrangement in itself was beyond brilliant and I think it’s safe to say we will be seeing Adam next week. A+
Matt Giraud went next singing “Stayin’ Alive.” Matt got down and gave a lively performance. I could see the determination in his eyes and his fight to stay was apparent. His high notes sounded great, but Simon took his determination for desperation. Paula, however, thought that Matt totally saved his own life with this disco hit. Matt definitely deserves an A for effort. A-
Danny Gokey & Annop Desai - Michael Becker/FOX
Anoop Desai closed the show with another Donna Summer’s hit “Dim All The Lights.” As a big fan of this disco classic, I was ecstatic that Anoop was able to show his vocal range and hit each and every note. Paula thought that he hit that “magical zone” in his voice and Kara thought it could be played on the radio. Simon disagreed and called it Anoop’s “worst performance.” While I feel he could show a bit more emotion, I think Anoop did the song justice. B+
After watching the performances, I def caught some of that disco fever myself. While I’m still having trouble preparing myself for the elimination of two idols, I must say that I feel that Lil and Anoop should be the ones to pack their bags. What do you Idol babez think? Let us know!
