Meet the girls of PPP

Real-life BFFs Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez are teaming up for a new Disney Channel Original comedy: Princess Protection Program (premiering this Friday, June 26 at 8 p,m. ET/PT). When Princess Rosalinda’s (Demi) country is invaded, she’s taken into custody by the Princess Protection Program, uprooting to rural Wisconsin. But can the would-be queen pass for a regular teen? Maybe with the help of tomboy Carter (Selena).

While we know lots about the two besties, what about the other gals in the film? We traveled to the set in sunny Puerto Rico and sat down with the stars. Here’s what you need to know…

Meet…Jamie Chung

She hearts her character, Chelsea “I’m kind of the senior, popular ‘it’ girl. It has been my life goal to become homecoming queen. I would compare my character to Rachel McAdams from Mean Girls. I’m trying to play her with a little bit of heart.”

She’s full of stunts “[I’ve had] plenty of falls [while working]. It’s [always] the simplest stunt and you end up hurting yourself. I have worked with fire, really going. [And there have been other stunts] where I just had to trip and fall on my face and it really ended up like me falling on my face.”

She’s eco-friendly “I always go green. I don’t use plastic or paper bags. I just bring my own bags to reuse instead of using plastic bags in the grocery store. And you should always recycle aluminum. It’s the one metal that you can consistently break down and reuse.”

She’s super sporty “I love going to the beach. I love playing football, catch and beach volleyball. I am super competitive! And I think that is a great comparison to my character because she is very competitive for this crown and will not stop until she has it in her hands.”

Meet…Samantha Droke

She has fun with her character, Brooke “[Brooke] is one of the popular girls. She’s kind of ditsy and is Chelsea’s best friend, like her wingman. But her whole mission in the movie is to win Chelsea’s heart and be accepted by her. She is hilarious.”

She’s no stranger to Selena “I did Horton Hears a Who! with Selena [Gomez] about two years ago. It was really funny because before I knew I was going to audition [for Princess Protection Program] I said something about it [to Selena] and she was like ‘Oh, I’m doing that! How funny would it be if we both did it?’ and then I booked it. We were so excited.”

She takes lines seriously “On a comedy that I did, one of my lines was, ‘I don’t mean to interrupt,’ but I was so into it that when I went to say it, I was like, ‘I don’t mean to intertrude’ [instead]. I put interrupt and intrude together. Everyone was dying laughing. I got a little blushed. Like, what was I thinking?”

She has tees for a cause “I have a t-shirt line that is in the process of getting done right now and it [sends] a really good message to people. [It inspires] everybody in the world to just love each other, love life and love what you do.”
