Bullied because I'm brainy

HELP ME! I'm really not a mean person or anything. But for some reason, most of the kids in my grade hate me. At school they just ignore me, or insult me. My mom says they act this way because they're jealous of me.

My IQ is 142 and I'm a straight A student, but still, why are jealous of that? They call me a nerd all the time! Is there any way to get them to see me in a better light?

Hey chica,

Aw girl! Props to you for being a major smarty pants. It’s great that you're so smart but as you can see, some kids are gonna be jealous that you can just effortlessly get an A in math or ace any science exam off the bat. They just feel a li’l intimidated by you and they’re showing it by trying to make YOU feel inferior. Don’t let them!

First off, just keep in mind that everyone has different standards of intellect.  When interacting with your peers, try understanding where they’re coming from. In other words, look at things in their point of view. That should help both you and your classmates to relate to each other. How would you feel if you totally stunk at softball but your BFF just kept batting home runs like it was no big deal? Pretty bad, huh? Well, that’s how kids feel about your brains!

Remember, it’s easy for anybody to be jealous of anything! And yep, that’s right, lotsa people are jealous of a smarty pants like you because you’re VERY lucky. That’s something you can’t change. What you can change is what you do with your brains. Use your high IQ to help others. When you see someone struggling with a math problem, offer to guide him/her through it. Share your opinions to support others. This way, they’ll be able to approach you in a new light.

It’ll take some effort, but I know you can do this. With a new school year ahead and the summer for everyone to change, you’ll be just fine when you get back!
