Anti-boyfriend

I don't have any crushes. I think it's because I don't really want a BOYFRIEND, I want a FRIEND that’s a BOY. I have a lot of friends that are boys but now they're all telling me they have a crush on me or are asking me out.

I don't know how to break it to them. One of them asked me out then when I told him I that don't want a boyfriend right now he got upset and stopped looking at me and talking to me.

I'm so upset. I have a lot of friends that are girls, but they all have crushes and they think this sounds more like gloating than a bad thing. Is there any way possible to turn guys down without losing them as friends?

Thanks!

Hey hon, every girl finds herself in this exact situation at least once in her life. And it doesn’t end with middle school or high school. Just a couple of weeks ago, I had to politely turn down a guy, but we’re still friends. Here’s what ya do:

The key here is to be nice, but firm. Some guys really can’t take no for an answer and if they think there’s even the tiniest bit of a chance, they will never leave you alone. When I had to tell this guy I just wasn’t that in to him, I said: “You’re a really nice guy and I know you like me, but unfortunately, I don’t feel the same way. I would really like us to be friends, but I don’t want to lead you on.” After I gave my speech, I asked if he hated me and to my surprise, he said no and he was happy to be friends. He appreciated the fact that I told him the truth.

It was definitely one of the hardest and most awkward things I’ve ever had to do, but I felt way better after. Honesty is definitely the best policy. And if the guy isn’t cool with that? Then you really don’t need him as a friend anyway. A real friend—boy or girl—respects your decisions and doesn’t try to pressure you into anything you don’t want to do.

Eventually you’ll find a guy you want to be your boyfriend. But, for now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with just having friends who are boys. Who knows? Maybe one of those lucky guys will turn out to be a great BF in the future. Best of luck, chica!

Lots of love,
L’Oreal
