Wild for Wii Fit

As growing girls, we try to stay in shape as much as possible. But then again it’s difficult to find the time—or energy—to get off the couch, go to the gym or for a run (especially in the cold winter months).

As somewhat of an early New Years’ resolution, I swore last year that I would stay in shape over the winter. Successful? Not so much. But then my mom brought home the Wii Fit game for the Nintendo Wii and, lets just say, it’s my latest obsession.

Everyday when I get home from school, I bust out the Wii along with the Wii Balance Board and start my workout. When you first start out, you have to enter your BMI (Body Mass Index) and weight, and also your balance and strength. You’ll then receive your Wii Fit age—the age based on all the data. From this starting point, the Wii will help you set a schedule for whatever plan you may have for yourself, be it to lose or maintain your weight. Depending on what you specifically want to work on, there are also different yoga, strength, aerobic and balance exercises that will help you become more flexible and tone your hips, thighs, abs and arms.

I usually start with the yoga exercises, where you concentrate on your breathing, balance and flexibility. There are a bunch of different positions, like the “warrior,” “half-moon” and “sun salutation,” that really help you relieve stress and stretch out any tense muscles. After this, I go to the strength workout, where you build and tone muscles in your arms, abs and legs. Here, there are exercises, like lunges, push-ups, jackknifes and sideways leg lifts.
Then I get to the aerobics, where there are exercises like hula-hooping, rhythm boxing and basic step aerobics that get your blood flowing, helping to raise your heart rate. After this, I go back to the yoga positions as a cool down. While I have my own routine for my workout, you can start and end with whatever exercises you choose. Amazing, right?!

My favorite thing about the Wii Fit is that it allows me to get a great workout without leaving my living room! Honestly, if I didn’t have the Wii Fit to workout with, I don’t know what I would do.

What’s your favorite Wii Fit workout routine? Blog about it, babes.
