Brandon Mychal Smith: Our new BFF

You may know him as Nico on Disney’s Sonny With A Chance, but this Sunday the 20-year-old is stepping into the shoes of Stubby, Christopher Wilde’s childhood best friend, in Disney Channel’s Original Movie StarStruck.

Teaming up with fellow Sonny co-star Sterling Knight has sure been a blast for Brandon. But what makes him BFF-worthy? We traveled to Los Angeles to hang with the hilarious cutie and took some notes as to why anyone would be lucky enough to call him a pal.

BFF Quality #1: He’d be a great shopping buddy
“I’m definitely fashion forward like my character Stubby. I’m always trying to think of something cool and ingenious that I can bring to the table. I’m a little less colorful than Stubby is—I’m kind of more like the rockstar, punk, European-inspired British suit type guy. I think my style is a bit more varied, and Stubby’s is a little more eccentric.”

BFF Quality #2: He has hot friends to hang with
“Sterling [Knight] is like my brother. We hang out and I see him every weekend. We [love to] bowl. I bowl like a 140, he bowls on a good day like a 160. He’s a little better [than] me.”
BFF Quality #3: He has a fab sense of humor
“If I had to dress Sterling, I’d probably put him in something that he would totally hate like spandex and Uggs, and have him be some cross-dressing, Sunset-walking lunatic.”

BFF Quality #4: He’s down with his senses—and will make it known
“[My biggest pet peeve] is a bad odor. I hate floral smells. It’s too strong. If you walk by and there’s a smell of floral, chances are I can’t be by you. Floral smells are the biggest turn off.”

BFF Quality #5: He gives great advice
“The best piece of advice I’ve ever given my sister [was] to just stay focused and do what makes you happy. I’ve got a saying that if you love what you do, then you’d never work a day in your life. So I always try to tell her just to be creative. Try and look at things from a different perspective, and take a different route in pursuing whatever your career goals are. They come out really cool.”

Be sure to catch Brandon in StarStruck this Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the Disney Channel, then let us know your thoughts on his performance.
