It happens every holiday season: we all hit the cookie jar a li’l more often than we should and resolve to eat better in the New Year. Here’s how to make some super-simple changes to your habits and improve that diet. You’ll have tons more energy and will just feel better. Buh-bye holiday pounds (and total sugar addiction!)

For your first meal
Stock up! Skipping breakfast just leads to poor eating later in the day. Start your morning with a steamy bowl of oatmeal or quinoa (check out our how-to here.) Add some almonds and banana wheels to keep you satisfied until lunch.

In the caf
Skip the long line and pack your own midday meal. Try sacking a whole-wheat pita pocket with lotsa veggies and hummus or some leftover turkey and a slice of cheese for a higher-protein main course. Too-sweet choices like PB&J or chocolate milk and cookies will just set you up for a sugar crash as soon as the next period starts. Healthy, whole foods like apples, carrot sticks or a hard-boiled egg will give you the brain power to get through the day.
 
When you’re starving—and din is hours away
Snacking can actually be good for you—if you do it right (you’ll be less likely to go totally nuts when you actually eat if you keep yourself from getting totally famished). Try a pear, whole-wheat English muffin with nut butter, string cheese or a handful of almonds for a filling bite. Homemade soup or a bit of yogurt are some of our fave go-to’s as well.

At the dinner table
After a lot of overeating at the holidays, make a point to avoid seconds. Instead, load up on crisp veggies and lean proteins, like chicken, fish or tofu. If your fam dishes up boxed mac ‘n’ cheese or delivery pizza regularly, make a point to sneak veggies into the meal. For the pasta, toss in some peas or tomatoes. For pizza, sprinkle on arugula or whatever greens you dig.

If you’re sipping
Skip the soda or juice and sip water all day—it quenches your thirst and will keep you from getting crazy hungry. Soda, which is high in calories and bad-for-you-ingredients like phosphoric acid, just leaves you craving even more sugary sweet things (the diet stuff does too!).

Hey babygirl1256, jogging around your neighborhood, riding your bike, walking places and drinking water are all easy ways to shed pounds. Try exercising for about 30 minutes to an hour once or a couple times a week. Set up a scheldue that works for you. Dedicate a few minutes to jumping jacks, sit ups or push ups, leg lunges, And other exercises you like. YouTube probably has some good routines. Hope this helps! Xoxo

I stopped drinking soda 2 weeks ago and i feel better knowing that im not losing myself to a can of nasty. I drink water alot, but i hate the how its all plain so i add lemons to them. i know that sounds nasty, but i like the sour taste.. it gives it flavor. And im gonna go without candy for 2 months. this will be hard.. jk.. im actually going to have gum only... sugar-free... haha...

I am twelve years old and very short. I mean, I am four foot eight, without shoes on. And i weigh 70 pounds. Everyone says i am super skinny, but im NOT. My thighs are like tree trunks. Everything i eat, goes right there. What should i do?

Hey mod, well i'v been exercising for about a year now but my stomach has only reduced a tiny bit. My brother told me that my back looks smaller and so does my arms. He also said that your stomach reduces the last, is this true? and well will i have a slim tummy?!

Hola chica! It is true for females for the tummy to be the last place to lose all that troublesome fat. This is because we are naturally built to have children, and all our fat is stored in our stomach, waiting to provide for them when they come. ok so i really wanna start exersizing more. I want to work out but I can never stick to anything, even to finish a workout. I find that they are too complitcated and time consuming. I need easy, fast and fun workouts to do so I don't get bored with trying to be fit.
Ive looked at the workouts on the site, and some of the moves are easy while some complitcated. Do I need to have a workout plan?? I really want to get fit this year, but it is such a struggle b/c I give up on the workouts when they get boring.
Do you have any esay, fun and fast workouts for me to try??

 

Hey girlie. Try getting a dance workout video and doing it with a friend. Also look to see if your town has any zoomba classes--these are super fun and a great workout!

MOD MOD MOD!!!! when i workout i usually pick a strength circut and then add 2-4 minutes of jumping rope between each strength move. am i still getting the same benifets by chopping up my cardio time or would it be better if i did it all at once? THANKS SO MUCH!!!

MOD!!
I really want to work out but I can't stick to anything, not even to finish the workout. THey usually get boring fast and can't even do some of the stuff. I hardly have time to work out, so I need some fast easy workouts.
Ive looked through some on the site, even tried them but I can't find one that suits me.
What are some workouts I can do that are fast, easy and fun? (for a not very flexiable chick like me can do!!)

Hey girl, I'm a big fan of jogging outside. It's entertaining because as you jog you watch the scenery change around you. Add some music and by the time you've got home after thirty minutes of running, you're done.
