Sneaky tricks for improving your posture

Check these out, too...

Here’s the secret to increasing your concentration, cranking your confidence and looking super pretty: standing up straight. It’s simple, really. Good posture is key to being the best you, inside and out. So if you find yourself slouching in school or at home on the computer, read on to learn how you can improve your posture.

Ever notice how if you slouch for a while, it actually hurts? That’s your body telling you to straighten out: Good posture should feel natural and effortless. When you sit down in class, sit as if you are being held up by strings, with your back against the chair. Make sure your shoulders are back, that your bottom is in the innermost part of the chair, and that the rest of your body feels relaxed, not tensed.

You might notice that the more you do this in school, the more alert you’ll feel. This will help your focus and listening ability, and eventually, it’ll help score you better grades! Good posture can also get you brownie points with your teachers. They’ll notice how engaged you seem and will appreciate having such an attentive student.

Good posture means standing up straight, too, so don’t forget about your stance when you’re walking. Stand with your back straight, just as when you’re sitting. It’s also important to keep your weight balanced evenly on both sides of your body. If you find yourself balancing your weight on one side when you’re flirting with a cutie by your locker, fix it right away! It might seem natural to stand like that, but studies have shown that standing tall will instantly improve your mood and confidence levels, which means guys will be more likely to notice you!

If you’ve spent a lot of time slouching, it can be hard to improve your posture. The best thing you can do is nag yourself until it comes naturally. Good posture is an image boost that your body will love, so stand up straight, girlie, and get ready to take on the world!

MODMOD!
Lately ive been really tired all the time! i usually go to bed around 9:30 and wake up around 6:30, but lately everyday when i get home from school all i want to do is go sleep! I'm usually awake by the time i get to school, and never fall asleep in class or anything, but it all catches up with me when i get home. this afternoon i got home, fell asleep and i didnt wake up until my dad got home about 7. is there anything i can do so im not sleeping all the time?

Just keep going to bed when you do. Youll be fine. Also youre growing so youre going to tired. dont fret. xoxo kerra

I really liked these two tee shirts at Rue 21 but, I need to know a way to wear a tee shirt so it looks stylish! like aa type of jacket, that sort of thing! Thanks!

Hey girlie,

Absolutely! A tee with a fitted black blazer (that hits about hip length) looks totally sophisticated. A tee shirt with a leather jacket will look rock-n-roll chic, while a tee shirt with a sequined cardigan is completely glam Smile And the black  skinny jean goes with ALL these looks!

MOD MOD MOD:
I don't mean to be gross but I have a huge issue! Whenever I get home there is a little bit of pee and a lot of sweat on my panties. I figured it was no big deal. But lately when I wipe, it comes out all gooey! And once something that looked like applesauce came out with some red in it when I wiped my rear. I'm terrified! What is going on! It's not my period,I still have 2-3 weeks.

Hey girl,

I know you said it happened when you wiped on the backside, but honestly this sounds like normal discharge to me! And all girls experience "spotting" (some red/brown showing up in between periods) now and then, so it's nothing to be concerned about. If you are absolutely certain it's coming from your rear though, I would ask mom or dad to give the doc a call. It's most likely nothing but, when blood is found in your stool (aka "#2"), the doctor should always give their opinion just to make sure all is ok!

So there is this kid who sit's beside me and he's always coughing and sneezing on me and he look's at my test and paper's pointing out what i got wrong! How do i keep him out of my buissness!?

Hey girlie,

Bring a little personal bag of tissues to class next time and, when he coughs/sneezes, casually pass the tissues to him. Say something like, "Use these, please." Then let it go and go back to your things. That'll give him the hint that he's being gross. And the next time he looks at your test, put your arm around it to hide it and firmly say, "STOP it." Give him a harsh look and get back to work. You just have to be firm - if he's bothering you, you have to stand up for yourself!

one thing my sister did (its for something else but it works for this too) put sticky notes places where you are everyday. for example the computer, fridge, etc. when you see the sticky note, it will remind you to sit or stand up straight. it really works

I have wanted a BGF forever and i think i found the perfect guy to be great friends with how can i keep this friendly relationship up without having any other "feelings" get involved. I just think i really need to have a guy friend to talk to and have a Blast together and talk about fun things. How can i start? THanks so much GL! Smile

Hey girlie,

Honestly, it's really hard to prevent those "feelings" if they're meant to happen. If you're attracted to him or find his personality a good match for you, it's hard to deny it. But don't go into the friendship with that as the goal - you know you just want a platonic BGF, so keep it to that! It can also help to talk about your guy issues and let him talk about his girl issues. That way, you have a constant reminder that he is not an option - you already know too much about his love life, ya know? Give it a try and see how it goes! Like I said, you can't prevent those feelings if you're really attracted to him - but treat him like a friend and you should be fine Smile

ok so Im kinda quiet and a little bit shy and in my classes i dont get to sit next to my friends so i dont really talk to anyone. I always try to sit up straight and sometimes i do. Its just sitting up straight and being quiet makes me seem like a goody goody always focusing on what the teacher says. which i dont though i can crazy at times with people i know. And also how can i ger confidence in myself and not worry about what other ppl have to say?

Hey girl,

This is one of those cases where you have to "fake it til you make it" - fake confidence until you feel it! Challenge yourself to be out-going and start some small-talk with the people who sit around you. Listening in class and sitting up straight won't make you seem like a goody-goody if you don't act too good for the people around you! So just make sure you're being friendly, warm, and getting to know everyone. You'll feel more and more comfortable every day Smile

What kind of exercises could I do to improve my posture? I've tried sitting/standing up straight, but I just end up slouching again after a while, and it's frustrating. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hey girl,

This isn't really something that requires an exercise - you just need to pay attention to the way you're sitting/standing and make sure you keep your shoulders back and tall. You gotta commit to it and remind yourself constantly! Soon it'll become habit.

MOD MOD MOD!
I have a slouch and whenever I try and straighten myself out it hurts! I feel tense and everything opposite to what you said in this article Frown I don't know what to do, I don't want a slouch forever, I think my shoulders are too forward, what shall I do to discourage a slouch?

Hey girlie!

It hurts at first because your body is so not used to it.  Your best bet is to strengthen your back with exercises and keep at it.  You'll get there!

It would be easier to have good posture if schools had chairs that weren't so bad for your back. The chairs encourage bad posture.
