GL’s Amanda Forr caught up with Camp Rock’s Alyson Stoner. Turns out, this tip-top hip-hop dancer leads a super-healthy lifestyle. Whether she’s on-set with the JoBros or hangin’ with her fam, this chick seems like she’s active 24/7. Check Alyson in action in Camp Rock on June 20th on the Disney Channel at 8 EST/7 Central and as Alice in Alice Upside Down, out on DVD July 29!
GL: So do you have any favorite summer memories?
AS: My family and I, we’re all big athletes, so we would go to the baseball diamond every day and my sister would have a softball game. And right next to it was the soccer field, so I would go play my soccer game. Then we would go to both of our basketball games and I would have gymnastics practice. I know this sounds crazy, but we loved sports, so that was every day, we were out in the field playing sports in the hot summer heat.
GL: Wow, you guys are athletic.
AS: We just love sports—it’s kind of crazy…I wish I could still play soccer like I did, but it’s something I have to practice every day to really keep up. I’m used to using my arms throughout the day, but when you have to use your legs to dribble the soccer ball, it’s really not easy.
GL: How else do you like to unwind?
AS: I’m such a nerd; I do homework. I know that’s weird but it keeps me feeling like a kid that has to do homework at home. And I either take my books on the road or I like to create my own music on my computer on my little electric keyboard. And other than that, the first thing I do is I go for a run. If I can’t clear my head going on a run, then I’ll go and play basketball and if I can’t do that, then I go and write music. Exercising clears everything out and just helps me chill.
It’s not like I’m obsessed with working out, I’m obsessed with feeling good about myself. I love the feeling that I’m making my heart ten times healthier by going for a run. I just care less about physical appearances, because it’s what’s going on in on the inside that really matters. And it feels so good to know, like okay I’m definitely not going to have as high of a risk if I was just sitting on the couch.
GL: Right, it sounds like you’re just the type of person who wants to take care of herself.
AS: Oh yeah, it’s a bad thing and very like a mom, I tell my friends, too, like did you guys take your vitamins today?
