Oooh, Vampires

Vampires are everywhere, and it doesn’t look like there’s an end in sight for this trend!

It’s safe to say it all began with Twilight, the breakout book series that was Stephenie Meyer’s claim to fame. The novel made its theatrical debut last November and, although it received mixed reviews, it brought in an impressive amount of revenue, with follow-up films New Moon and Eclipse promising to do the same.

Twilight mania is not stopping any time soon—do you blame them? Not only is Twilight-themed merchandise everywhere, as well as an official Twilight convention in the works, but so is the supernatural theme. Go to the bookstore and you’ll see myriad teen novels centering around vampire plots. Turn on the television and it’s there, too.

One TV show I’ll be interested to check out this fall is The CW’s The Vampire Diaries (set to premiere in early September). Starring Paul Wesley, former Lost cutie Ian Somerhalder, and Degrassi’s Nina Dobrev, this series has a breakout cast that’s putting a creative spin on the idea of vampires living among humans.

Are you a Twilight fan? Or do you just like the fantasy genre that seems to be exploding with popularity recently? What do you think about this trend? Blog about it, babes.
