Most people think today’s best artists are on VH1’s Top 20 Countdown or winners at the MTV VMAs. But a lot of us don’t realize there are some amazing artists with outstanding talent who just haven’t hit it big time—or at least not yet. I have a personal obsession with searching for up-and-coming artists. Every night when I get home, I get online and the search begins.
Usually, I start on iTunes. Believe it or not, iTunes does more than just help you search for your fave artists—it also has info on new ones! There is a “Free on iTunes” section towards the bottom of the iTunes Store page where you can download songs and videos of some up-and-coming artists and groups.
You may think, “Why bother?” The answer? Why not? First of all, it’s FREE! Secondly, you may be pleasantly surprised with what you hear. The iTunes staff wouldn’t recommend artists that weren’t any good, after all.
Another great place to look is on Google (obviously!). If you type in “up-and-coming artists,” you should get a bunch of hits. You may have to dig through the sites a bit, but be patient. Who are some of the artists I’ve found from Google searching? A Fine Frenzy, Matt and Kim, Reliant K and The Wombats. You may have heard of them, you may have not. Either way, it’s worth the look
Are you a fan of a unknown but awesome band? Where do you search for new tunes? Blog about it, babes.
