I was starting this first-time gig with this lady i knew. I knew that she was Italian but I didn't realize that that meant the kids were Italian, too. I got there, and I couldn't understand a thing the kids said. One was asleep when I came, so when he woke up, it was just me (a stranger) and his mom was gone. He started screaming and crying in Italian and i couldn't do anything to stop it except sing and rock him.
Later, the mom called me and said what a wonderful job I did and had me babysit again! I came back prepared to try and sound out Italian books when it turned out, the kids could speak English, too.
