Ever wondered what it takes to start an internship?

Will you be nervous on your first day? Super-scared? What should you expect?

We interviewed some of OUR GL interns to get the scoop on what it's like.

Here's what they said...

Eek! It’s a girl’s first day on the job at GL! What advice would you give her?

Don’t freak! If you pay attention, keep an open mind, and (most importantly) stay calm, you’ll be comfortable in no time. The entire staff is super-nice and they do their best to integrate you as much as possible.  -Molly C.

Relax! It's super intimidating at first with all of the new info and just the idea that you're working at Girls' Life magazine, but everyone is so nice and helpful. It will quickly turn from "scary" to "totally awesome." -Liz L.

Give every task your best attention and creativity. And be the first to sign up for every opportunity! -Emily J.

Being a GL girl when I was younger definitely helped on my first day! I loved reading GL, so being familiar with the mag allowed me to jump right in. -Claudia N.

I would say be prepared for the ANYTHING. My first day on the job I worked at a photoshoot. I drove the models to the location, helped our fashion editor, and even walked a dog! Every day working at GL is totally different, so expect the unexpected! -Megan P.

I was really nervous my first day at GL, but everyone is super nice and understanding, so there is nothing to worry about. If you have any questions, just ask because they are more then happy to answer them for you. -Eryn G.

What advice would you give to a gal who’s starting any internship?

If I had one piece of advice for a girl starting at any internship, I would be to get involved! Mentors love it when you contribute to the company and when you help out with projects. Don’t be scared to voice your opinions and help out—after all, that’s what you’re there for! -Molly C.

Remember to be as professional as possible. Internships are a way to gain experience and make connections, so take full advantage of both. -Liz L.

Be confident and keep an open mind. Internships are a great learning experience so go out there and do your thing! -Emily J.

Be open-minded to anything. Take on any challenges that come your way. You will surprise yourself. -Claudia N.

Make sure you smile and don't be afraid to ask questions, even if you feel intimidated! A friendly face makes you seem approachable and shows that you really appreciate being there. It doesn't hurt to ask a lot of questions—you'll ensure that you're handling tasks correctly and learning a lot, too. -Megan P.

When you are starting a new internship its important to be nice to everyone. Kindness can go a long way. Just have fun with everything and enjoy every moment! -Eryn G.
