Whenever I read stuff about doing self breast exams they
always say to make sure that there are no lumps, but when I feel my breasts
they are always really lumpy. Do I have breast cancer or something?
Not to worry, babe, what you’re feeling in your breasts is
probably nothing to worry about. Breast cancer is extremely rare in teens. The
lumps you’re feeling are most likely related to your growth and development.
More than half of all women have breast lumps called
fibroadenomas. These are small, noncancerous cysts that tend to change in size
according to your period. If you have them, they’re usually easier to feel just
before your period.
Still worried? Don’t fret. Give your doctor a call and set
up an appointment for a routine examination. If your breasts start to feel
different between exams, or you’ve noticed something new, getting checked out
is a good precaution.
