It’s time to put this crazy heat (and all of the delish
fresh produce in your grocery store) to good use! We all love snacking on gummy
fruit snacks and dried fruit, but did you know you can make your own at home?
Read on, girlie, to find out how…
What you’ll need:
Fruit (we like apricots and peaches)
Lemon juice
Water
Cheesecloth
Cookie sheet
What you’ll do:
Wash, pit and cut your fruit into small pieces. Soak the
fruit for five minutes in a 1:1 lemon juice and water mixture. You can skip this step, but the lemon juice will help your
fruit retain its color. Cover your cookie sheet with cheesecloth and spread the
fruit on top. Make sure the slices are not overlapping.
Now we’re ready to dry! You can do this outside if the
temperature is over 100 most of the day and humidity is low. Or, you can do it
inside in your oven. Preheat the oven to about 140 degrees F. Place the trays
inside and crack the door so the steam can escape. Allow to dry for at least 6
hours, and rotate the sheets every few hours. Depending on the conditions, the
fruit may take longer to dry. When it’s pliable but with a leathery appearance,
it’s done! Store in airtight containers and eat ‘em up.
