Score locker room body confidence

Check these out, too...

  • Tell us what YOU think: How do you boost your body confidence?
  • Why do my fingers turn red when I'm cold?
  • 3 times it's OK to tell your bestie's secret
  • Do guys only care about chest size?
  • Why is my tummy so rumbly?
I’m scared about the locker room in sixth grade! I am smaller than all my friends and I’m kind of flat chested. I’m worried that I will be smaller than all of the other girls. Any tips?

In a locker room, it’s easy to start comparing bodies, but you just have to stop! Everyone’s unique and we all have great qualities, so why dwell on the negative things? It’ll only get you down. Try focusing on the amazing things that you love about yourself, like your amazing math skills, athletic ability or outgoing personality. You could even make a list of all those great qualities and tape it to your mirror. Anytime you’re feeling insecure, just take some time to look back at it, and you’ll soon realize that you’ve got a lot more going for you than you might think!

You may not realize it, but even the most confident-looking girls still get insecure sometimes. Nobody’s perfect, and we all have things we envy about one another. The important thing is to accept yourself for who you are, and keep your confidence up. If you feel confident, you’ll be confident—it’s as easy as that!

I'm in a tough sitch. I have gym next quarter and I am stressing because i don't have a sports bra yet and we all change together in the locker room. Would it be weird if I went to the bathroom to change? I have bigger breasts than most girls in my grade and i feel weird when they look at me. Also, I don't have any experience with the gym lockers. How do I handle them? If u can help me please leave some tips for me on my profile. Thanks so much!

Hey girl! I happened to see your question so I'm hoping I can give you some answers. I'm a mod, someone who girls ask for help by starting their comments with "mod mod mod mod!!" you may have seen that before Smile

If I were you, I would purchase a bra/sports bra. It will give you the support you need in P.E. and give you the confidence to change in the locker room comfortably! There's nothing wrong with going to the bathroom to change, but remember that you're not the only girl with body insecurities. Everyone will be so worried about themselves, they won't even think to look at you!

xoxo

MOD MOD MOD!!! I'm going into 7th grade at a new school and we have to change in locker rooms for gym EVERY SINGLE DAY. I've never had to do that before in my life, and I'm really worried about other girls seeing that I wear a bra and stuff. Worse, I barely know any of the girls so they're not like my friends who know me and my body well. How can I change without being super-nervous? I've always thought I was too overweight so what if the girls make a comment on my weight or my body? Please help.

Everyone is probably just as nervous as you are--take a deep breath, relax and change. You'll be outta there in no time and you'll see that it's not that bad Smile

I'm kinda worried. i got my first period in the beginning of August, so it should be starting up again. i'm going into 7th grade, and we have to change with 7th AND 8th graders in the locker room. Would it be bad to change in one of the bathroom stalls? And, i get really really REALLY moody and cranky when i have my period. How can I be careful to not get in trouble when its my time of month? If you have any tips for me please comment on my profile!

I found a really good trick for changing bras when I was camping (with 6 other girls all changing in the same tent at the same time). If you take the straps off, the put the other bra on like you aren't wearing anything else, then unsnap the old bra and slip if off, no one sees anything! It works for a sports bra too. Just instead of unsnapping, you flip the bra and then unsnap it when the sports bra is already on. Just practice once or twice at home to get the hang of it, before you do it at school. Smile

Hey girl, yes it is! your body is constantly growing and changing, so its never perfectly the same on both sides. If you are really worried, talk to your parents about maybe seeing a doctor.

MOD~
I'm 12, and about 5'5"; going on 5'6"... I weigh somewhere around ... pounds, and I eat like a pig at times, while on others, I eat barely anything, or nothing. Once, I went two days without eating, and my friends tease me about being so skinny and tall! I hate it, because I've been growing 4 inches a year, and I trip over my own feet since I'm so tall... Help?

Hey girl,

Sometimes we want to eat more because our bods are growing at a more rapid pace. It's all part of being a tween/teen and it's totally normal - and your height is too! But not eating for two days is not healthy - you should always try to eat three meals (even if they're small) every day so you get vitamins and nutrients! Personally, I would chat with my doc about this situation and just see what he/she recommends. I'm sure they won't say that your weight is unhealthy, but they might have suggestions for making sure you stick to a healthy diet so your bod gets all the energy it needs Smile

at my school we only have gym our freshman year, but all we had to do was change in/out of our gym clothes. most girls just changed in front of each other (no big deal we are all girls), but the only "private" place we had to change in were the dirty bathroom stalls. on the rare occasion were i had to change into my gym clothes (lets just say i did not participate unless i was graded) i just did it in front of the other girls. its not like you have to get completely naked (unless you want to change into a sports bra). and also it depends on the school and the teacher, and how much work/activity that teacher will make you do. i hope this helpsSmile

Its normal to be concerned, we have privacy at our school to shower so we dont have to do it front of each other. The guy's shower is just one big open room so they have to get naked in front of each other. I guess its kind of like Glee where the guys compare sizes of certain body parts to each other. Weird if you ask me!

So just try to have more privacy or change really fast, I have had to do that before when I felt more concerned.

Hey babe. Your period will be coming at some point since you are developing. Don't be insecure girls can start their periods anywhere from around 10-16. Just keep a pad in your locker or bag and you should be all set. If you think you might be suprised by it you could always try pantyliners.

Hey chica! I promise, you'll make new friends. Just be friendly and outgoing and everyone will love you. You can also join clubs that fit your interests, like the soccer team or photography. That way when you meet the other people you already have shared interests! I know it's weird to change in front of people for the first time, but I swear it's nothing to lose sleep over. Everyone will be changing so no one has time to look at everyone else. Take comfort in knowing that it becomes super natural by the end of the year to strip in front of the other girls. I remember the end of my 6th grade gym class we were showing off our cute bras to each other, it was so normal by then.  If it makes you really uncomfortable then just focus on changing quickly and if you're wearing a cami under a shirt to school then don't take off the cami. That will be less exposure. xoxo

MOD MOD MOD!
I'm really happy because I think I've discovered myself, I'm emo. The HUGE problem is, is I can't have the look because my parents would flip out. They're starting to get the idea and they don't like it. I have the clothes to make the look, but I'm afraid I'll walk out the way I LIKE, and they'd flip out. I know they would, no doubt. I can't talk to them about it either, they hate emo people and wouldn't understand at all. They'd just find it as another excuse to talk to my therapist. (Yeah, because of them, I have one) So what do I do? /:

Hey girl,

I know you'd be totally comfortable rocking this look from head-to-toe but, since your parents might not really understand it, try to incorporate pieces of the look into your everyday style. That way, you'll start to feel more like yourself but you'll also introduce it to them slowly, without overwhelming them. Start with a shirt you like, for example. Then start darkening your makeup if you'd like. A haircut can also help. Doing these things slowly and balancing them with more familiar style choices can really be a great compromise between the both of you Smile

I was just wondering if baking soda is a safe way to whiten teeth? Also, my arms are skinny and I want them to get more muscle and looked toned. Do you have any workouts to get them better? Thank you!

Try not to use baking soda for brushing your teeth several times a day since it's really harsh, but brushing them at night with baking soda and a bit of water will definitely make a difference! I do that and it definitely cleans stains off your teeth well Smile As for your arms, we have lots of exercises to keep 'em fit. Check out our Workouts section!

So lately, I've been feeling really self conscious, especially because of BTS clothes shopping. Nothing seems to fit me right, and since I'm not exactly a size 6, if something DOES fit me right, it isn't cute at all. MOD MOD MOD!
okay, so were having this huge dance at the end of this coming school year, cause were graduating 8th grade. I tried on some dresses like last week, and my confidence took a huge dive.
im way bustier then all of my other friends. they can all slip into size 3 & 5 dresses. I would be able to too cause im skinny, but i have to wear like a 7. just because im bustier. & it makes me feel like super fat compared to my super tiny friends.
how do i get my confidence up?
thanks!

Hey babe! You should embrace your body! Just because you have big boobs doesn't mean you're fat, at all! I know it's hard, but you shouldn't compare yourself to your friends bodies. Everyone has something they wish they could change. Instead of focusing on the negative, remind yourself of your favorite aspect of your body, maybe you're killer eyelashes, your super toned legs, or your tiny waist. Find dresses that accentuate the smallest part of you, the size doesn't matter. What matters is how you feel in the dress. It's all about your attitude and it's way more fun to focus on the positive things than the negative. xoxo!

Hey babe! 5 pounds probably won't make that much of a difference. Just try going for a run and cutting some of the calories. You should be eating something healthy every 3-4 hours. Small portions of healthy things at those intervals are best. Good luck! XOXO

Hey chica! That just happens to some girls while they're on their period. It used to happen to one of my best friends, she threw up constantly and had such severe pain that she couldn't leave her bed. Her doctor put her on the a birth control pill and now she's totally fine. It regulates her period so everything is under control. Going to your doctor is the best thing to do and that's probably all it is, nothing to worry about. xoxo!

Hey babe! It's great that you lost 20 pounds, so it's normal now that your body is slowing down now. You're not overweight so you should stop worrying about losing more weight and focus on staying healthy now. The most important thing to do now that 20 pounds are gone is to keep up the exercise and diet routine. Don't slow down, if anything run an extra mile. Keep up your routine, even make it slightly more challenging, and you'll still lose weight (it will be slowly) and the best part is that you'll keep it off. Good luck! xoxo

MOD
This year I'm going into highschool. I'll be changing in a locker room for the 1st time. What's it like? What should I do when I'm on my period? since I wear pads.

Hey babe! At my high school we got to choose the gym lockers we wanted so I got one near all my friends. That helped a lot, since I know they love me know matter what I look like under my clothes. It's really not that bad though. Everyone is changing at the same time so they're all worried about dressing themselves more than looking at everyone else. Plus, there's always that one girl who is so self-confident that she has no problem stripping the frist day, it's still kind of awkward though (the first day). Every girl has her period, so all the other girls totally get it if you're wearing a pad. Honestly, no one even notices. We were all too busy trying to change to see what anyone else was doing. And by the end of the year we were all showing each other our cute bras. I remember in middle school changing around the other girls and the only thing that was ever noticed was who was shaving their legs already and where everyone bought those super cute jeans, no joke. I promise, there's nothing to worry about. Good luck and don't sweat it! xoxo
